Folate deficiency and decreased brain 5-hydroxytryptamine synthesis in man and rat
M I Botez,M I Botez,Simon N. Young,Simon N. Young,J Bachevalier,J Bachevalier,Serge Gauthier,Serge Gauthier +7 more
TL;DR: It is found that the concentration of the 5-HT metabolite 5-hy-droxyindoleacetic acid (5-HI A A) is low in the lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of folate-deficient patients who have folATE-responsive neuropsychiatrie symptoms, and low brain 5- HT levels in the brains of rats fed folate -deficient or over-supplemented diets.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vivo quantification of neurofibrillary tangles with [18F]MK-6240.
Tharick A. Pascoal,Tharick A. Pascoal,Monica Shin,Min Su Kang,Min Su Kang,Mira Chamoun,Daniel Chartrand,Sulantha Mathotaarachchi,Sulantha Mathotaarachchi,Idriss Bennacef,Joseph Therriault,Kok Pin Ng,Robert Hopewell,Reda Bouhachi,Hung-Hsin Hsiao,Andrea Lessa Benedet,Jean-Paul Soucy,Gassan Massarweh,Serge Gauthier,Pedro Rosa-Neto,Pedro Rosa-Neto +20 more
TL;DR: This evaluation shows an [18F]MK-6240 distribution in concordance with postmortem studies and that simplified quantitative approaches such as the SUVR offer valid estimates of neurofibrillary tangle load 90 min post injection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial disorientation in persons with early senile dementia of the Alzheimer type.
TL;DR: Occupational therapy should include the assessment of spatial orientation skills in persons who are in the early stages of dementia, because spatial disorientation poses a danger and limits a person's ability to independently perform daily activities that require navigation outside of the home.
Journal ArticleDOI
The benefits of group occupational therapy for patients with Parkinson's disease.
TL;DR: The results showed that the subjects of the treated experimental group maintained their functional status after 1 year, demonstrated a significant decrease of bradykinesia, and perceived a significant improvement in their psychological well-being.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alzhemed: a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease.
Paul S. Aisen,Serge Gauthier,Bruno Vellas,Richard Briand,Daniel Saumier,Julie Laurin,Denis Garceau +6 more
TL;DR: Alzhemed appears to be well tolerated with long-term exposure and reduces CSF Abeta(42) levels in mild-to-moderate AD subjects, and these findings will be discussed in the context of two large-scale randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase III clinical trials that are currently being conducted to test the long- term safety and efficacy of Alzhemed.
