TL;DR: The ARIEL mission as mentioned in this paper was designed to observe a large number of transiting planets for statistical understanding, including gas giants, Neptunes, super-Earths and Earth-size planets around a range of host star types using transit spectroscopy in the 1.25-7.8 μm spectral range and multiple narrow-band photometry in the optical.
Journal ArticleDOI
An updated study of potential targets for Ariel
TL;DR: Ariel has been selected as ESA's M4 mission for launch in 2028 and is designed for the characterization of a large and diverse population of exoplanetary atmospheres to provide insights into planetary formation and evolution within our Galaxy.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The Atmospheric Remote-Sensing Infrared Exoplanet Large-survey (ARIEL) is one of the three candidate missions selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) for its next medium-class science mission due for launch in 2026 as discussed by the authors.

Exoplanet spectroscopy and photometry with the Twinkle space telescope
Billy Edwards,Malena Rice,Tiziano Zingales,Marcell Tessenyi,Ingo Waldmann,Giovanna Tinetti,Enzo Pascale,Enzo Pascale,Giorgio Savini,Subhajit Sarkar +9 more
TL;DR: The Twinkle space telescope as discussed by the authors has been designed for the characterisation of exoplanets and Solar System objects, which can provide on-demand observations of a wide variety of targets within wavelength ranges that are currently not accessible using other space telescopes or accessible only to oversubscribed observatories.
Journal ArticleDOI
ArielRad: the Ariel radiometric model
TL;DR: It is shown that the measurement uncertainties are dominated by the photon statistic, and that an observing programme with about 1000 exoplanetary targets can be completed during the primary mission lifetime.
