Explaining apparent particle shrinkage related to new particle formation events in western Saudi Arabia does not require evaporation
Pauli Paasonen,Heikki Lihavainen,Jenni Kontkanen,Markku Kulmala,Veli-Matti Kerminen,Simo Hakala,Tuukka Petäjä,David Stanley,Andreas Liening,Sean Prentiss,Donald C. Weber,Saloni Sajid Maner, Arshaan Asif Shaikh, Imamova Akida ,Oblokulov Anvar,Yang Cao +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used a Lagrangian single-particle growth model to identify the cause of decreasing mode diameter (DMD) events in Hada al Sham, western Saudi Arabia during 2013-2015.

Low hygroscopicity of organic material in anthropogenic aerosols under pollutionepisode in China
Juan Hong,Hanbing Xu,Haobo Tan,Changqing Yin,Liqing Hao,Fei Li,Mingfu Cai,Xuejiao Deng,Nan Wang,Hang Su,Hang Su,Yafang Cheng,Yafang Cheng,Lin Wang,Tuukka Petäjä,Veli-Matti Kerminen +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a self-assembled Hygroscopicity Tandem Differential Mobility Analyzer (HTDMA) and an Aerodyne Quadruple Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor (ACSM) to measure aerosol hygroscopy and particle phase chemical composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synergistic role of sulfuric acid, ammonia and organics in particle formation over an agricultural land
Lubna Dada,Magdalena Okuljar,Jiali Shen,Miska Olin,Laura Heimsch,Yusheng Wu,Rima Baalbaki,M. Lampimäki,Ilkka Herlin,Joni Kalliokoski,Annalea Lohila,Tuukka Petäjä,M. Dal Maso,Jonathan Duplissy,Veli-Matti Kerminen,Markku Kulmala +15 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors show that soil-emitted compounds, together with nitrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide, contribute to environmental degradation in agricultural land at Qvidja in Southern Finland.
ReportDOI
Biogenic Aerosols—Effects on Clouds and Climate (BAECC) Final Campaign Summary
Tuukka Petäjä,D. N. Moisseev,Sinclair,E O’Connor,A Manninen,J. Levula,Riikka Väänänen,Liine Heikkinen,Mikko Äijälä,J Aalto,Joel A. Thornton +10 more
TL;DR: The formation of aerosol particles and their growth to cloud condensation nuclei sizes in these areas are associated with biogenic volatile organic emissions (BVOC) from vegetation and soil as mentioned in this paper.
Book ChapterDOI
Measurement of the Charging State with an Ion-DMPS to Estimate the Contribution of Ion-induced Nucleation
TL;DR: In this paper, a physically sound equation that describes the charging state of particles during a nucleation event is presented and fitted to the Ion-DMPS data and analyzed data from over one year of measurements in Hyytiala, Finland (April 13, 2005-September 21, 2006).
