Terpene emissions from boreal wetlands can initiate stronger atmospheric new particle formation than boreal forests
Heikki Junninen,Lauri Ahonen,Lauriane L. J. Quéléver,Simon Schallhart,Lubna Dada,Hanna E. Manninen,Katri Leino,Janne Lampilahti,Stephany Buenrostro Mazon,Pekka Rantala,Mari Räty,Jenni Kontkanen,Sara Negri,Diego Aliaga,Olga Garmash,Pavel Alekseychik,H.H. Lipp,Kalju Tamme,Janne Levula,Mikko Sipilä,Mikael Ehn,Douglas R. Worsnop,Sergej Zilitinkevich,Ivan Mammarella,Janne Rinne,Timo Vesala,Tuukka Petäjä,Veli-Matti Kerminen,Markku Kulmala +28 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the role of wetlands in aerosol formation and found that terpenes initiate stronger atmospheric new particle formation than is typically observed over boreal forests and that new wetlands produced by melting permafrost need to be taken into consideration as sources of secondary aerosol particles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of ions on the measurement of sulfuric acid in the CLOUD experiment at CERN
Linda Rondo,Andreas Kürten,Sebastian Ehrhart,Siegfried Schobesberger,Alessandro Franchin,Heikki Junninen,Tuukka Petäjä,Mikko Sipilä,Douglas R. Worsnop,Joachim Curtius +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of ion-induced nucleation on the sulfuric acid concentration was investigated in the cloud chamber at CERN, where ternary trace gases (NH3, DMA, C2H7N) and oxidised products of pinanediol (PD, C10H18O2) were added to the cloud.

Donahue,Houssni Lamkaddam,Urs Baltensperger,Imad El Haddad +57 more
TL;DR: In this article , a mixture of anthropogenic vapours, under condensation sinks typical of haze conditions, up to 0.1 s−1 was observed in the cloud chamber at CERN.

Long-term observations of the background aerosol at Cabauw, The Netherlands.
Dimitra Mamali,Jyri Mikkilä,Bas Henzing,R. Spoor,Mikael Ehn,Tuukka Petäjä,Herman Russchenberg,George Biskos,George Biskos +8 more
TL;DR: Long-term measurements of PM2.5 mass concentrations and aerosol particle size distributions, as well as hygroscopicity measurements conducted over one year at Cabauw, The Netherlands, are compiled here to provide a comprehensive dataset for understanding the trends and annual variabilities of the atmospheric aerosol in the region.
