TL;DR: The Triple F ( Fresh From the Fridge) mission as mentioned in this paper was proposed to extract three sample cores of the upper 50 cm from three locations on a cometary nucleus and return them cooled to Earth for analysis in the laboratory.
Abstract: The Triple F ( Fresh From the Fridge) mission, a Comet Nucleus Sample Return, has been proposed to ESA's Cosmic Vision program. A sample return from a comet enables us to reach the ultimate goal of cometary research. Since comets are the least processed bodies in the solar system, the proposal goes far beyond cometary science topics (like the explanation of cometary activity) and delivers invaluable information about the formation of the solar system and the interstellar molecular cloud from which it formed. The proposed mission would extract three sample cores of the upper 50 cm from three locations on a cometary nucleus and return them cooled to Earth for analysis in the laboratory. The simple mission concept with a touch-and-go sampling by a single spacecraft was proposed as an M-class mission in collaboration with the Russian space agency ROSCOSMOS.

TL;DR: Ethyl 2-methylpropanoate and ethyl2- and 3-methylbutanoate are among the main odorants in Tagetes minuta L. essential oil, according to gas chromatography (GC)-olfactometry and vocabulary-intensity-duration of elementary odors by sniffing.
Abstract: Odor impact compounds of Tagetes minuta L. essential oil were studied by gas chromatography (GC)-olfactometry using aroma extract dilution analysis (AEDA) and vocabulary-intensity-duration of eleme...

TL;DR: In this article, volatile extracts of two wild cabbages, Brassica cretica and Brassica insularis, were studied by GCMS, GC/FID, and GC-olfactometry/aroma extract dilution analysis (GC-O/AEDA).
Abstract: Volatile extracts of two wild cabbages, Brassica cretica and Brassica insularis, were studied by GC–MS, GC/FID, and GC–olfactometry/aroma extract dilution analysis (GC–O/AEDA). Major compounds were 3-butenyl cyanide (70% of the total GC/FID area) and 3-butenyl isothiocyanate (29%) in B. cretica and 2-phenylethyl cyanide (53%) and 2-phenylethyl isothiocyanate (21%) in B. insularis. AEDA revealed the impact of five heteroatomic trace compounds (diacetyl, methional, furfuryl thiol, 1-octen-3-one and skatole) with moderate to high flavour dilution (FD) factors that were detected only due to GC–O analyses. TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical composition and antibacterial activity of two populations of Thymus numidicus Poiret were investigated, differentiated by the color of the flowers of the plants.
Abstract: We investigated the chemical composition and the antibacterial activity of the essential oils of two populations of Thymus numidicus Poiret. differentiated by the color of the flowers. Forty-two compounds were identified by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), representing more than 97% of the oil. The main components of both oils were thymol (59.0%, 68.0%), γ-terpinene (8.5%, 4.2%), p-cymene (5.8%, 4.5%), carvacrol (3.7%, 4.2%) and α-pinene (5.3%, 3.5%) (purplish-white and violet varieties, respectively). The oils exhibited promising activity in the disc diffusion antibacterial assay.

TL;DR: The first detection of O,S-diethyl thiocarbonate in Indian cress absolute is reported on by GC-olfactometry/VIDEO-Sniff and on its isolation and identification.
Abstract: Indian cress (Tropaeolum majus L.) absolute was studied by GC-olfactometry (VIDEO-Sniff method) in order to identify odor-active aroma compounds. Because of its fruity-sulfury odor note, a compound that has never been identified in plant extracts before stood out: O,S-diethyl thiocarbonate, present at 0.1% (percentage of the total GC/FID area) in the extract. GCxGC-TOFMS allowed for a clean mass spectrum to be obtained, and isolation by preparative GC followed by NMR studies allowed its identification. Here, we report on the first detection of O,S-diethyl thiocarbonate in Indian cress absolute by GC-olfactometry/VIDEO-Sniff and on its isolation and identification. The synthesis and odor evaluation of its homologues are presented.

TL;DR: The European Rosetta mission as mentioned in this paper will verify the outlined hypotheses on modern theories on the origin of life on Earth by analyzing cometary ice samples in situ using a lander on a cometary surface.
In order to better understand the origin of life on Earth the most recent chemical experiments are presented that successfully simulated the prebiotic genesis of amino acids. Surprisingly, laboratory samples of interstellar ice do not only contain classic amino acids but also diamino acids. Diamino acids are discussed to have triggered the appearance of the first genetic material, the peptide nucleic acid, on Earth. The European Rosetta-mission that will pose a lander on a cometary surface hopefully will verify the outlined hypotheses on modern theories on the origin of life on Earth by analyzing cometary ice samples in situ.
