Dust measurements in the coma of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko inbound to the Sun

Alessandra Rotundi, +90 more
- 23 Jan 2015 -
TL;DR: In this article, the GIADA (Grain Impact Analyser and Dust Accumulator) experiment on the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft orbiting comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko was used to detect 35 outflowing grains of mass 10−10 to 10−7 kilograms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deep Impact: Observations from a worldwide Earth-based campaign

Karen J. Meech, +208 more
- 14 Oct 2005 -
TL;DR: Data show that there was new material after impact that was compositionally different from that seen before impact, and the ratio of dust mass to gas mass in the ejecta was much larger than before impact.
Journal ArticleDOI

Direct Detection of the Asteroidal YORP Effect

TL;DR: In this paper, optical photometric observations of a small near-Earth asteroid, (54509) 2000 PH5, acquired over 4 years were obtained and it was found that the asteroid has been continuously increasing its rotation rate ω over this period by dω/dt = 2.0 (± 0.2) × 10−4 degrees per day squared.
Journal ArticleDOI

Large heterogeneities in comet 67P as revealed by active pits from sinkhole collapse

Jean-Baptiste Vincent, +67 more
- 02 Jul 2015 -
TL;DR: It is reported that pits on comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko are active, and probably created by a sinkhole process, possibly accompanied by outbursts, and argued that after formation, pits expand slowly in diameter, owing to sublimation-driven retreat of the walls.
