Journal ArticleDOI
Distinct roles for each N-glycan branch interacting with mannose-binding type Jacalin-related lectins Orysata and Calsepa.
TL;DR: A detailed comparison of N-glycan-binding preference for two mJRLs, Orysata and Calsepa is reported using frontal affinity chromatography, X-ray crystallographic structure and molecular modeling, which suggest that each branch of N -glycan has a distinct role in binding to mJ RLs and the nonbinding branch can contribute significantly to the binding affinity and hence to the specificity.
Journal ArticleDOI
A keratan sulfate disaccharide prevents inflammation and the progression of emphysema in murine models.
Congxiao Gao,Reiko Fujinawa,Takayuki Yoshida,Manabu Ueno,Fumi Ota,Yasuhiko Kizuka,Tetsuya Hirayama,Hiroaki Korekane,Shinobu Kitazume,Toshitaka Maeno,Kazuaki Ohtsubo,Kazuaki Ohtsubo,Keiichi Yoshida,Yoshiki Yamaguchi,Bernd Lepenies,Jonas Aretz,Christoph Rademacher,Hiroki Kabata,Ahmed E. Hegab,Peter H. Seeberger,Peter H. Seeberger,Tomoko Betsuyaku,Kozui Kida,Naoyuki Taniguchi +23 more
TL;DR: It is shown that keratan sulfate (KS), one of the major glycosaminoglycans produced in the small airway, decreased in lungs of cigarette smoke-exposed mice, suggesting that L4 suppressed inflammation in the lung.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polyamine modification by acrolein exclusively produces 1,5-diazacyclooctanes: a previously unrecognized mechanism for acrolein-mediated oxidative stress.
Ayumi Tsutsui,Rie Imamaki,Shinobu Kitazume,Shinya Hanashima,Yoshiki Yamaguchi,Masato Kaneda,Shinya Oishi,Nobutaka Fujii,Almira Kurbangalieva,Naoyuki Taniguchi,Katsunori Tanaka +10 more
TL;DR: Diazacyclooctane formation is suggested to be involved in the mechanism underlying acrolein-mediated oxidative stress, a previously unrecognized but significant downstream product of oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surface plasmon resonance and NMR analyses of anti Tn-antigen MLS128 monoclonal antibody binding to two or three consecutive Tn-antigen clusters.
Ayano Matsumoto-Takasaki,Shinya Hanashima,Ami Aoki,Noriyuki Yuasa,Haruhiko Ogawa,Reiko Sato,Hiroko Kawakami,Mamoru Mizuno,Hiroshi Nakada,Yoshiki Yamaguchi,Yoko Fujita-Yamaguchi +10 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that thermodynamic control plays a critical role in the interaction between MLS128/Tn2 and MLS128-Tn3 and the development of novel cancer therapeutics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid increase of 'brain-type' transferrin in cerebrospinal fluid after shunt surgery for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus: a prognosis marker for cognitive recovery.
Yuta Murakami,Yuka Matsumoto,Kyoka Hoshi,Hiromi Ito,Takashi J Fuwa,Yoshiki Yamaguchi,Madoka Nakajima,Masakazu Miyajima,Hajime Arai,Kenneth E. Nollet,Naho Kato,Rie Nishikata,Naohito Kuroda,Takashi Honda,Jun Sakuma,Kiyoshi Saito,Yasuhiro Hashimoto +16 more
TL;DR: Brain-type Tf levels decreased in iNPH but rapidly returned to normal levels within 1-3 months after shunt surgery, suggesting that brain- type Tf is a prognostic marker for recovery from dementia afterShunt surgery for iN PH.
