01 Jan 2021TL;DR: The present study aims to provide a robust numerical scheme to analyse composite structures with varying degrees of corrosion to address and deal with the issue of durability caused by corrosion.
Abstract: One of the major problems affecting present infrastructure is shortening of service life due to durability issues. A large number of steel-concrete composite structures fail not from overloading but because of durability issues. One of the main causes of short service life is corrosion of steel in steel-concrete composite structures. The current state of practice in design codes deals with this issue by assuming a perfect bond between steel and concrete for design considerations and provision of minimum cover depth for prevention against corrosion. The degradation at the interface that can have long-term deteriorative effects on strength and durability cannot be addressed with the present framework. Thus a need for more exact design and analysis recommendations is needed to address and deal with the issue of durability caused by corrosion. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of corrosion at the steel-concrete interface on the structural behaviour of steel-concrete composite structures through numerical methods. The mechanics of degradation of the interface have been studied using finite element method. Effects of corrosion at the steel-concrete interface such as weakening of the interface, reduction of structural steel area and de-lamination at the interface have been studied. These phenomenon can be modelled using finite element approaches. Modelling of corrosion using solid elements presented with problems of mesh refinement, coupling damage with a constitutive response. To address the above, a UEL has been implemented in ABAQUS using a traction separation law based on the Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria, which will be used to model corrosion at the interface. Experimental data on corrosion samples were used to obtain the material properties. The developed model shall provide a way to study the effect of the presence of varying amounts of corrosion on the performance of a structure. The present study aims to provide a robust numerical scheme to analyse composite structures with varying degrees of corrosion. On the basis of obtained results, recommendations for addressing deterioration due to corrosion would be recommended.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied force distribution characteristics and load with standing capability of a remodelled IC engine piston connecting rod arrangement where the conventional single piston single connecting rods arrangement is replaced by linking two pistons with a single connecting rod.
Abstract: Objectives: This paper aims at studying force distribution characteristics and load with standing capability of a remodelled IC engine piston connecting rod arrangement where the conventional single piston single connecting rod arrangement is replaced by linking two pistons with a single connecting rod. Methods\Statistical Analysis: 3D Modelling of the arrangement is carried out using Solid works while force analysis of the model is done using ANSYS workbench. Parallel twin cylinder 4 stroke petrol engine is utilized as reference for creating the model and analysis purpose. Findings: The results gives the theoretical evidence that there can be a considerable reduction in engine weight and complexity with this new arrangement with stress, deformation and strain values lying within the boundary. Applications\Improvements: This arrangement gives extra room for lubricants thereby indeed indirectly increasing performance characteristics.

01 Feb 2019TL;DR: The finding of this study suggests the usefulness of artificial neural network based prediction system to predict the evaporation from a reservoir using FSMLP technique for better estimation.
Abstract: Evaporation is one of the most important components for hydrological study. Accurate estimation of this parameter helps for water resource management, irrigation etc. In this paper, a neural network based model using MLP (Multilayer Perceptron) network model is developed to get to know the effects on evaporation using the different meteorological parameters. Given data comprising of daily mean temperature, relative humidity, sun shine, wind speed are used in the neural network based system. The data are acquired from different meteorological devices and sensors. Here, we have demonstrated that the accuracy can be improved using the appropriate features on estimation of evaporation. This model uses FSMLP technique for better estimation. The finding of this study suggests the usefulness of artificial neural network based prediction system to predict the evaporation from a reservoir.

Abstract: This chapter discusses different types of non-sinusoidal orthogonal functions such as Haar functions, Walsh functions, block pulse functions, sample-and-hold functions, triangular functions, non-optimal block pulse functions and a few others. It also discusses briefly the application of Walsh, block pulse and triangular functions, three major members of the non-sinusoidal orthogonal function family, in the area of systems and control. Finally, this chapter proposes a new set of orthogonal functions named ‘Hybrid Function’ (HF). At the end of the chapter, more than hundred useful references are given.

01 Sep 2019TL;DR: This manuscript has discussed about a PV (photovoltaic) generation system with battery and capable of extracting maximum power output by using P&O type MPPT technique and it is working in isolated mode.
Abstract: The current critical condition of fossil fuel crisis is rapidly increasing day to day and its harmful impact to the climate and environment is serious matter to take care. Thus, green energy or renewable energy is the only possible solution coming out of this context and solar energy is one of the most effective energy resources of these green energy system. In this manuscript we have discussed about a PV (photovoltaic) generation system with battery and capable of extracting maximum power output by using P&O type MPPT technique and it is working in isolated mode. As per the information given above, we have built a prototype of the system using a PV module capable of generating 1kW energy and the MPPT method has been implemented with the mean of using P&O technique. As the efficiency of the PV generation system is always a matter of concern the MPPT technique has been used to extract maximum power output from the PV array at any environmental condition. Here we used DC-DC converters as MPP trackers. A detailed model of the system first simulated using MATLAB/Simulink and later on the results have been validated to check effectiveness and suitability in the point of view of performance of the prototype has been added to this article. In each step of our designing of the prototype we tried to make it a cost-effective, simple and efficient model than the other existing models found in market.
