TL;DR: Evaluating the hepatoprotective effects of ethanol extract of Chenopodium album Linn revealed that whole plant has got protective effects against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity.
Abstract: Chenopodium album Linn (Called Bathua in Bengali) is a plant which has a long history of uses in liver disorders in this subcontinent. This study was done to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of ethanol extract of this plant on paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in albino rats. The total experiments were designed as follows (I) Experiment (part I):- Induction of hepatotoxicity by single administration of paracetamol at a dose of 2 gm/kg body weight. (2) Experiment (part II) : Effects of ethanol extract of Chenopodium album Linn. on paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in albino rats. The biochemical reports suggested that acute administration of paracetamol produced significant hepatotoxicity in experimental rats which was evidenced by significant increase in Serum Bilirubin, Serum Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) Serum Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) Serum Alkaline Phosphatese (ALP) level, decrease in serum albumin and serum total protein level. When rats were treated with extracts of C. album plant in paracetamol induced hepatotoxic albino rats, the results showed marked reduction in serum bilirubin, serum ALT, serum AST and serum ALP level and increase of serum albumin level but not sigificant increase of total protein as compared with paracetamol treated group. The results of the present study revealed that ethanol extract of Chenopodium album Linn. whole plant has got protective effects against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity. Further study is needed to find out the curative effect and to isolate the active principle and to explore out the exact hepatoprotective mechanism of this plant extract. TL;DR: The single fetal death in multiple pregnancy is not rare, but death of one fetus in multiple pregnancies increases the risk of mortality and morbidity of the surviving fetus.
Abstract: The single fetal death in multiple pregnancy is not rare. Death of one fetus in multiple pregnancy increases the risk of mortality and morbidity of the surviving fetus. Proper diagnosis and intervention in appropriate time can improve the maternal and neonatal outcome. Adequate counselling psychological support and close follow up are mandatory. TL;DR: One 55 years aged male person was admitted with progressive painless neck swelling with multiple discharging sinuses, and X-ray of the neck showed a dense radio-opaque shadow & serum calcium level was 2 mmol/l.
Abstract: One 55 years aged male person was admitted with progressive painless neck swelling with multiple discharging sinuses. His X-ray of the neck showed a dense radio-opaque shadow & serum calcium level was 2 mmol/l. On neck exploration, an irregular calculus was revealed; hooking around the left carotid sheath. Histopathology confirmed the clinical diagnosis of tuberculosis. Anti-TB chemotherapy for six months cured him.

TL;DR: Immediate arrival to the hospital and early administration of antivenom resulted in successful recoveries in two cases of consecutive neurotoxic bites on two men by a single snake in Chittagong.
Abstract: In tropical countries like Bangladesh, persons are bitten by snakes every day and a considerable number of patients die en route to the hospital. An event of consecutive neurotoxic bites on two men by a single snake was observed in the Snake Bite Study Clinic (SBSC) of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Two brothers, working in their semi-pucca restaurant, were successively bitten by the same cobra on their lower limbs. Within an hour, they were taken to the CMCH. Few minutes after admission, both developed symptoms of neurotoxicity: ptosis, nasal voice, dysphagia, broken neck sign, etc. They received polyvalent antivenom (Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceuticals Company, India) and other auxiliary treatment immediately. Within few hours, neurotoxic features were completely absent. Later, the snake was captured in the restaurant kitchen and identified as monocellate cobra (Naja kauthia) by the SBSC. The elder brother developed significant antivenom reactions and both presented necrosis and ulceration at the bite sites. In these cases, immediate arrival to the hospital and early administration of antivenom resulted in successful recoveries.
