01 Jan 2020TL;DR: A hybrid approach of Cuckoo Search algorithm and Ant Lion Optimization for solving a multi-objective optimization problem of secured optimal power flow and optimal placement and rating of thyristor-controlled series compensator in IEEE standard 30-node power transmission network to minimize network power losses and simultaneous improvement in node voltage profile.
Abstract: The work presented in this article provides a hybrid approach of Cuckoo Search algorithm (CS) and Ant Lion Optimization (ALO) for solving a multi-objective optimization problem of secured optimal power flow and optimal placement and rating of thyristor-controlled series compensator (TCSC) in IEEE standard 30-node power transmission network to minimize network power losses and simultaneous improvement in node voltage profile. The power flow solution is computed using Newton–Raphson (NR) algorithm under both normal and overloading operating condition. The quadratic fuel cost is chosen as the objective functions. A new power flow index is proposed for finding the optimal location for TCSC. The optimal size of TCSC is determined using ALO. The efficacy of the proposed approach is examined and verified by comparing it with the other algorithms such as gravitational search, firefly algorithm, and other techniques such as fuzzy and neural networks. The statistical analysis is also performed to evaluate the competency of the methodology.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors validate the enablers of bio-inspired model of organizational excellence proposed by Agarwal and Vrat (2015a) and test its usefulness as an instrument in evaluating the degree of organisational excellence achieved.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to validate the enablers of bio-inspired model of organizational excellence proposed by Agarwal and Vrat (2015a). It is also aimed to test its usefulness as an instrument in evaluating the degree of organizational excellence achieved. Design/methodology/approach – Survey methodology has been used to investigate the hypotheses. Data have been collected through a self-structured questionnaire with closed-ended questions. Structural equation modeling and analytic hierarchic process have been used to test and analyze the data. Findings – The results of hypothesis testing indicated that out of 19 paths only ten were significant. However, in the revised model only six paths out of those ten significant paths were retained and three new suggested paths were incorporated to make the final model. Besides, calculation of relative weights of each enabler shows that being self-driven occupies the top-most rankings, supply chain optimization occupies the second rank and promptnes...

28 May 2014TL;DR: An overview of the general type of FACTS controllers and also presents in detail the modeling and simulation of Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) which is widely used FACTS controller for series compensation in SIMULINK as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Power system stability is a major concern owing to the severe complexity of modern power systems resulting from large number of interconnections, high voltage tie line operations, additional generating installations etc. This paper presents an overview of the general type of FACTS controllers and also presents in detail the modeling and simulation of Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) which is widely used FACTS controller for series compensation in SIMULINK. The TCSC Controller is designed and implemented in multi machine power system and the result obtained shows that the proposed TCSC controller structure is very effective in damping low frequency oscillations and enhancing transient stability of the given system. The FACTS controller introduces a `flexible' operation to the power system model under study and enhances system performances.

TL;DR: In this article, a series of europium (Eu 3+ ) ions doped with magnesium-zinc-sulfophosphate glasses of composition (65 − x ) P 2 O 5 −20MgO-15ZnSO 4 x Eu 2 O 3 ( x = 0.
Abstract: Trivalent rare earth ions doped sulfophosphate glasses became demanding owing to their several notable attributes that are advantageous for diverse photonic devices. To fulfil such goal, preparation of sulfophosphate glasses with optimized composition by selecting appropriate modifier and subsequent characterizations are essential. Driven by this idea, we synthesized a new series of europium (Eu 3+ ) ions doped magnesium-zinc-sulfophosphate glasses of composition (65– x ) P 2 O 5 –20MgO-15ZnSO 4 – x Eu 2 O 3 ( x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mol%) using simple melt-quenching method. As-prepared glasses were characterized thoroughly at room temperature via various analytical techniques to determine the Eu 2 O 3 concentration-dependent physical and optical properties. Transparent (pinkish) and thermally stable glasses were achieved. XRD pattern confirmed the amorphous nature of the studied glasses. Glass density was increased from 2.603 to 2.789 g/cm -3 with the increase of Eu 2 O 3 contents from 0 to 2.0 mol%. FTIR spectra revealed the characteristics bonding vibrations (symmetric and asymmetric stretching and bending of n S (P-O), n aS (P-O-P), n S (P-O-P), n S P 3 O, n S (P-O-P)of phosphate networks linkages. The UV-Vis-NIR spectra of the glasses disclosed six significant absorption peaks centred at 360, 380, 394, 414, 465, and 531 nm accompanied by two NIR peaks around 2091 and 2205 nm allocated to various transitions from the ground state to the excited states of Eu 3+ ion. Furthermore, the optical absorption data were further used to calculate the energies of direct (2.0 to 3.85 eV) and indirect (3.74 to 5.0 eV) band gap as well as Urbach energies (0.1909 to 0.2440 eV). The photoluminescence (PL) emission spectra of glasses displayed four peaks entered at 593, 613, 654 and 701 nm assigned to the 5 D o→ 7 F o, 5 D o→ 7 F 2, 5 D o→ 7 F 3 and 5 D o→ 7 F 4 transitions of Eu 3+ ion. The PL peak at 613 nm showed the highest emission intensity. The PL intensity was enhanced with the increase of Eu 3+ content up to 1.5 mol% and quenched thereafter. It was concluded that controlled physical and optical properties can be obtained by appropriately optimizing the glass composition useful for photonic purposes.
