21 Aug 1996TL;DR: In this article, a process for making an essentially lead-free screw machine stock alloy, comprising the steps of providing a cast aluminum ingot having a composition consisting essentially of about 0.55 to 0.70 wt.
Abstract: A process for making an essentially lead-free screw machine stock alloy, comprising the steps of providing a cast aluminum ingot having a composition consisting essentially of about 0.55 to 0.70 wt. % silicon, about 0.15 to 0.45 wt. % iron, about 0.30 to 0.40 wt. % copper, about 0.8 to 0.15 wt. % manganese, about 0.80 to 1.10 wt. % magnesium, about 0.08 to 0.14 wt. % chromium, nor more than about 0.25 wt. % zinc, about 0.007 to 0.07 wt. % titanium, about 0.20 to 0.8 wt. % bismuth, about 0.15 to 0.25 wt. % tin, balance aluminum and unavoidable impurities; homogenizing the alloy at a temperature ranging from about 900° to 1060° F. for a time period of at least 1 hour; cooling to room temperature; cutting the ingot into billets; heating and extruding the billets into a desired shape; and thermomechanically treating the extruded alloy shape.

19 May 1975TL;DR: In this article, a method and device for accurately feeding discrete quantities of pulverulent material in a repetitive manner is described, which is advantageously employed in feeding particulate matter to a gas-solids contacting apparatus which is under positive pressure.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for accurately feeding discrete quantities of pulverulent material in a repetitive manner. The invention is advantageously employed in feeding particulate matter to a gas-solids contacting apparatus which is under positive pressure and particularly such apparatus which treat the fluoride containing off-gases from an aluminum reduction cell with particulate alumina to remove fluorides from such off-gases.

23 Mar 1970TL;DR: A method for improving the ADHESIVE QUALITIES of an ANODICally-formed COATING on ALUMINUM is described in this paper, where the authors propose a method to improve the adhesiveness of an OXIDE COATING.
Abstract: A METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE ADHESIVE QUALITIES OF AN ANODICALLY FORMED COATING ON ALUMINUM SUBSTRATE COMPRISING SUBJECTING AN ALUMINUM ARTICLE TO A CURRENT DESITY OF FROM 20 TO 75 AMPS/FT.2 FOR A PERIOD OF FROM ONE SECOND TO ONE MINUTE IN AN ELECTROLYTE SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF OXALIC ACID AND AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF PHOSPHORIC ACID, SAID SOLUTIONS CONTAINING MORE THAN 10 GRAMS/LITER OF ALUMINUM. THE PROCESS FORMS PSEUDODBOEHMITE ON AN ANODIC OXIDE COATING WHICH PROVIDES THE IMPROVED ADHESIVE QUALITIES.

14 Feb 1969TL;DR: In this paper, a method for metal casting in a direct-chill continuous mold having an insulated feed reservoir is described, which is axially aligned with the mold and has an overhang over the mold face of not more than one-eighth inch.
Abstract: A method for metal casting in a direct-chill continuous mold having an insulated feed reservoir. The feed reservoir is axially aligned with the mold and has an overhang over the mold face of not more than one-eighth inch. The casting speed for the metal is established so that the upstream conduction distance which is measured from the liquid wetting line of the chill liquid on the ingot surface extends to within about 1 inch of the reservoir. The casting speed and upstream conduction distance are controlled to satisfy a critical relationship which gives control over the heat transfer during the casting operation. During the casting, the mold wall temperature should not fluctuate more than about + OR - 25* F. per cycle when the temperature cycling rate is from about 0.5 to about 10 cycles per inch of length of metal being cast.
