16 Apr 1974TL;DR: In this article, a high alumina refractory of improved resistance to deformation at high temperature and resistance to slag penetration is made with a coarse fraction containing calcined flint clay and a fine fraction of fine silica, such as volatilized silica and fine alumina.
Abstract: A high alumina refractory of improved resistance to deformation at high temperature and resistance to slag penetration is made with a coarse fraction (+28 mesh) containing calcined flint clay and a fine fraction (-65 mesh) of fine silica, such as volatilized silica, and fine alumina. The intermediate fraction 28 x 65 mesh) can be either calcined flint clay or alumina, or a mixture of these two, selected to obtain the properties and Al2O3 content desired in the composition.

01 Jan 2016TL;DR: In this article, the characteristics of a variety of fluid and delayed cokes have been examined both in the laboratory and as fillers in statistically significant numbers of full-size reduction cell anodes.
Abstract: The characteristics of a variety of fluid and delayed cokes have been examined both in the laboratory and as fillers in statistically-significant numbers of full-size reduction cell anodes. Sulfur content varied from one to five percent and sulfur emission and anode performance indicated unique coke properties independent of sulfur level. Performance of high-sulfur filler anodes ranged from excellent to poor and is much more dependent on the amount of oxidant-accessible surface than on sulfur level. The significance of coke blend compatibility was investigated to improve anode performance with available fillers as coke quality changes.

12 Apr 1973TL;DR: In this paper, a free-flowing, non-agglomerating FLUORINATING AGENT for the VAPOR-PHASE, Stirred-Bed FLuORINATION of CHLOROALKANES HAVING up to two CARBON ATOMS at temperature extremes between 200*C and 450*C.
Abstract: 1. A FREE-FLOWING, NON-AGGLOMERATING FLUORINATING AGENT FOR THE VAPOR-PHASE, STIRRED-BED FLUORINATION OF CHLOROALKANES HAVING UP TO TWO CARBON ATOMS AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN ABOUT 200*C AND 450*C., WHICH CONSISTS ESSENTIALLY OF AN INTIMATE MIXTURE OF SODIUM FLUOROFERRATE (NA3FEF6) AND PARTICULATE CARBON, SUBSTANTIALLY FREE OF INORGANIC OXIDES AND VOLATILE COMPONENTS, WHEREIN THE SODIUM FLUOFERRATE TO CARBON WEIGHT RATIO IS WITHIN THE RANGE OF 1:1 AND 1:9 AND THE PARTICLE SIZE OF THE CARBON BEING WITHIN THE RANGE OF ABOUT 0.05-1.7 MM.

07 Mar 1973TL;DR: A SODIUM SILICATE BONDED, MGO-CONTAININD, PREPARED as mentioned in this paperRACTROY RAMMING MIX is made from prepared re-corroboration RAMMing Mixture as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A SODIUM SILICATE BONDED, MGO-CONTAININD, PREPARED REFRACTROY RAMMING MIX IS MADE FROM PREREACTED CHROMEPERICLASE OR PERICLASE-CHROME GRAIN, A SOLUBLE BORON COMPOUND, A WATER RETENTION AGENT, SODIUM SILICATE, AND WATER. CHROME ORE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE PREREACTED GRAIN, AND THE COMPOSITION MAY CONTAIN UP TO 10% PERICLASE GRAM, THE BORON COMPOUND AND WATER RETENTION AGENT ARE MIXED DRY WITH THE REFRACTORY GRAIN, AND WATER SUBSEQUENTLY ADDED. AFTER THE WATER IS DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE BOROM COMPOUND AND WATER RETENTION AGENT COATING THE GRAIN, SODIUM SILICATE IS ADDED. THE PARTICULAR METHOD OF MIXING PRODUCES A PRODUCT WHICH CAN BE STORED FOR RELATIVELY LONG PERIODS OF TIME WITHOUT SETTING.
