TL;DR: In this paper, the number of stages becomes the exponent in the term which sets the ratio of concentration differences at the terminals in a multistage countercurrent system and imperfect mixing is accommodated.
Abstract: Mud washing variables are equated in a manner which simplifies the calculation of multistage countercurrent systems. Imperfect mixing is accommodated. In a simplified case, the number of stages becomes the exponent in the term which sets the ratio of concentration differences at the terminals.

01 Aug 1978TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduced refractory compositions which have a desirably low swelling or bloating tendency, without using asbestos or floc, compositions are introduced, which include hectorite, which is a naturally occurring or manufactured hydrous magnesium silicate material.
Abstract: of EP0000981In order to provide plastic chrome or refractory compositions which have a desirably low swelling or bloating tendency, without using asbestos or floc, compositions are introduced, which include hectorite, which is a naturally occurring or manufactured hydrous magnesium silicate material. The refractory compositions contain, by weight on a dry basis, 85 to 95% of size-graded chrome ore, 1 to 5% of alkali metal silicate binder, 0 to 5% of plasticizer (other than hectorite) and sufficient water to form a plastic mass, the amount of hectorite being 0.5 to 5%. The hectorite can constitute the sole plasticizer, but for cost reasons other plasticizers are also included, plastic clays being especially preferred.

TL;DR: Kaiser Aluminum has installed its first electromagnetic casting station at its Trentwood Works as discussed by the authors, which casts 20 in. × 43 in. ingots of 5182 aluminum alloy for can lid stock.
Abstract: Kaiser Aluminum has installed its first electromagnetic casting station at its Trentwood Works. The five-ingot station casts 20 in. × 43 in. ingots of 5182 aluminum alloy for can lid stock. The successful implementation of the new process is attributed in large measure to careful testing, organization, and training. EM casting requirements are generally more stringent than conventional casting, particularly with respect to station alignment, cooling water quality, and metal inclusions. Advantages of the process include elimination of scalping, as well as numerous casting and roling mill economies, such as a low ingot inventory and shorter homogenization times. The surfaces of electromagnetic ingots are smooth and generally free of defects. All of Kaiser’s can lid stock customers are currently using electromagnetically cast alloy 5182.

01 Jan 1967TL;DR: In this paper, the aging effect at room temperature was investigated for aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys in the aluminum-glass-alloys system, and it was shown that these weldments can be exposed to elevated temperatures over longer periods of time, simulating the intended useful life.
Abstract: Cryogenic storage vessels are periodically exposed to ambient temperatures and possibly elevated temperatures for varying periods of time, usually for several days, either for cleaning the vessels or for deriming the processing system associated with the storage vessels. The elevated temperature exposure may be as high as 200–250°F. Several of the new aluminum alloys in the aluminum-zinc-magnesium system rely on the aging effect at room temperature to achieve improved strength of the weldments. There is, therefore, interest in finding out what happens to these weldments when exposed to elevated temperatures over longer periods of time-simulating the intended useful life of such vessels.
