Abstract: WO 3 hollow spheres were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis of a citric-acid-containing precursor solution, and their trimethylamine-sensing characteristics were investigated. The WO 3 hollow spheres showed a high response to 5 ppm of trimethylamine ( R a / R g = 56.9, R a : resistance in air, R g : resistance in gas) with low cross-responses to 5 ppm C 2 H 5 OH, CO, CH 4 , C 3 H 8 , H 2 , NH 3 , and NO 2 . The high gas response observed was explained by the effective electron depletion of small primary particles and the enhanced gas accessibility of hollow structures with thin and porous shells. The enhanced trimethylamine selectivity was discussed in terms of the interaction between basic analyte gas and acidic sensing materials.

Abstract: This study explores the interrelationship between absorptive capacity and knowledge sharing, which are innovation-specific antecedents of innovative behaviour. By differentiating the two sub-dimensions of absorptive capacity, potential and realised absorptive capacity, previous contradictory findings on the relationship between absorptive capacity and knowledge sharing are reconciled. To verify the research hypotheses, the survey responses from 138 R&D employees of a multinational electronics company are analysed through structural equation modelling. The results show that both sub-dimensions of absorptive capacity directly influence innovative behaviour. However, knowledge sharing’s effect on innovative behaviour is indirect through realised absorptive capacity. The research findings imply employees’ absorptive capacity and knowledge sharing among them should be nurtured simultaneously to facilitate innovative behaviour. Abstract: Background Gemcitabine (GEM) is widely used as an anticancer agent in several types of solid tumors. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) possess unique cytotoxic features and can induce apoptosis in a variety of cancer cells. In this study, we investigated whether the combination of GEM and AgNPs can exert synergistic cytotoxic effects in the human ovarian cancer cell line A2780. Methods We synthesized AgNPs using resveratrol as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized using various analytical techniques. The anticancer effects of a combined treatment with GEM and AgNPs were evaluated using a series of cellular assays. The expression of pro- and antiapoptotic genes was measured using real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Apoptosis was confirmed by TUNEL assay. Results In this study, combined treatment with GEM and AgNPs significantly inhibited viability and proliferation in A2780 cells. Moreover, the levels of apoptosis in cells treated with a combination of GEM and AgNPs were significantly higher compared with those in cells treated with GEM or AgNPs alone. Our data suggest that GEM and AgNPs exhibit potent apoptotic activity in human ovarian cancer cells. Combined treatment with GEM and AgNPs showed a significantly higher cytotoxic effect in ovarian cancer cells compared with that induced by either of these agents alone. Conclusion Our study demonstrated that the interaction between GEM and AgNPs was cytotoxic in ovarian cancer cells. Combined treatment with GEM and AgNPs caused increased cytotoxicity and apoptosis in A2780 cells. This treatment may have therapeutic potential as targeted therapy for the treatment of ovarian cancer. To our knowledge, this study could provide evidence that AgNPs can enhance responsiveness to GEM in ovarian cancer cells and that AgNPs can potentially be used as chemosensitizing agents in ovarian cancer therapy.

Abstract: Donetta J. Cothran, Pamela Hodges Kulinna, Dominique Banville, Euichang Choi, Chantal Amade-Escot, Ann MacPhail, Doune Macdonald, Jean-Francois Richard, Pedro Sarmento, and David Kirk Teacher beliefs are a major influence on teacher actions. Because context influences beliefs, it was the purpose of this study to explore teachers' beliefs about Mosston's Spectrum of Teaching Styles from an international perspective. Over 1,400 teachers from 7 countries completed a survey related to their self-reported use of and beliefs about various teaching styles. Data suggested a shared core of reproduction teaching style use. The use of and beliefs about the production styles of teaching were more varied. Teachers' use of styles was significantly related to their beliefs about the styles.

Abstract: A search for a Higgs boson in the four-lepton decay channel H→ZZ, with each Z boson decaying to an electron or muon pair, is reported. The search covers Higgs boson mass hypotheses in the range of 110 100 GeV (with 13 below 160 GeV), while 67.1±6.0 (9.5±1.3) events are expected from background. The four-lepton mass distribution is consistent with the expectation of standard model background production of ZZ pairs. Upper limits at 95% confidence level exclude the standard model Higgs boson in the ranges of 134–158 GeV, 180–305 GeV, and 340–465 GeV. Small excesses of events are observed around masses of 119, 126, and 320 GeV, making the observed limits weaker than expected in the absence of a signal.
