Abstract: Aims and Objectives: The aim was to study the demographic pattern, clinical features, management, and prognosis of the patients with firecracker-related ocular injuries during Diwali. Materials and Methods: This institution-based prospective study was done in 30 patients who attended eye emergency and outpatient department (OPD) of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal, during the period of 1 week of Diwali in 2016 and 2017. The parameters studied were the age and sex of the patients, type of firework (crackers and sparklers), eye involved, severity of injury with respect to active and passive participants, management, severity of injury, and visual outcome with respect to type of firecrackers. Results: A total of 30 patients attended eye OPD and emergency during our study period, of which 23 (76.7%) were male and 7 (23.3%) were female. All of them were in the pediatric age group (1–15). All patients were examined on the day of injury. Patients between 6 and 10 years of age were most commonly affected. Four cases (13.3%) were open-globe injuries and 26 (86.7%) cases were closed-globe injuries. Visual acuity varied from 6/9 to no perception of light. The most common firework involved was the crackers. Conclusions: Careless and indiscriminate use of firecrackers may sometimes lead to serious ocular damage. Abstract: Primary sarcoma of breast are rare. Diagnosis by aspiration cytology is difficult due to nonspecific cytomorphologic features. An initial presentation with neurological symptoms due to metastasis of breast sarcoma to the brain has not been previously reported. Here, we describe a case of a 60-year-old female who presented with headache, dizziness and convulsion and was subsequently diagnosed with undifferentiated high grade pleomorphic sarcoma of breast with cerebellar metastasis.

TL;DR: The need for psychological examination of patients visiting dental specialty with unexplained physical symptoms can be identified and treated, provided a psychiatric consultation service exists, according to GHQ-28 total score.
Abstract: Background: Psychiatric co-morbidities are frequent among patients attending dental OPD, some of which go unrecognized and hence untreated. Aims: The present study has been carried out to detect the psychiatric co-morbidities among dental patients and determine the scope of consultation-liaison (C-L) psychiatry in a rural teaching hospital regarding comprehensive management of the patients. Settings and Design: This cross-sectional, descriptive type study was conducted in a multi-speciality tertiary care teaching hospital in the northern part of West Bengal, India. Materials and Methods: One hundred patients attending the dental OPD were randomly included in the study and every patient was consecutively referred to psychiatry department for assessment, during the period from 1 st November 2013 to 30 th April 2014. All referred patients were clinically examined and psychiatric co-morbidity was assessed by the help of General Health Questionnaire (GHQ)-28 and Mental Status Examination. Statistical analysis used: The data were subjected to statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), version 16, and statistically analyzed using Cross tab and Chi test. P <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The commonest dental illness was dental caries (22%). More than two-third of the patients had psychiatric co-morbidity according to GHQ-28 total score. Sixty-eight patients were diagnosed to have mental disorder on mental status examination. Somatoform disorder (25%) was the commonest type of mental disorder, followed by mixed anxiety and depression (14%). Conclusions: This study has pointed the need for psychological examination of patients visiting dental specialty with unexplained physical symptoms. Such patients can be identified and treated, provided a psychiatric consultation service exists.
