01 Dec 2013TL;DR: In this paper, an overview of up-to-date research in virtual ergonomics evaluation technology (through DHM) and its applications in agriculture is presented. But, its application is till very limited in agricultural sector.
Abstract: Research towards developing user-compatible, ease in use and safe agricultural equipment with proper consideration of human factors using cutting edge technology like Digital Human Modeling (DHM) and simulation is very important in today's scenario. This technology offers new possibilities to integrate ergonomics principles into design process from the very beginning (conceptual phase) to solve complex problems in many engineering disciplines. However, its application is till very limited in agricultural sector. This paper provides overview of up-to-date research in virtual ergonomics evaluation technology (through DHM) and its applications in agriculture. Attempt has also been made to highlight future research direction in many areas of agricultural sectors where DHM might contribute potentially for ergonomic interventions to reduce drudgery and chances of errors and accidents. Authors have also identified reasons behind less adoption of this technology in agricultural sectors and tried to highlight strategies to be followed for wide adoption.

TL;DR: Variance ratio (F test) indicated the occurrence of significant differences among wood element dimensions except wall thickness of Castanopsis.
Abstract: Five species of Castanopsis namely C. armata, C. echinocarpa, C. hystrix, C. indica and C. tribuloides of Meghalaya were investigated to study the microscopic features and variation in their wood elements. It is observed that C. armata, C. hystrix and C. indica have semi ring porous wood with distinct growth rings while C. echinocarpa shows diffuse porous to semi ring porous wood with indistinct growth rings and C. tribuloides has semi ring porous to ring porous wood with distinct growth rings. Aggregate rays were observed only in C. armata. Both homocellular and heterocellular rays were present in all species. All Castanopsis species showed the presence of apotracheal diffuse, diffuse in aggregate, paratracheal scanty and vasicentric parenchyma. Tissue proportion measurements of different wood elements showed maximum percentage of fibers and minimum of parenchyma in all selected species. Mean minimum and maximum fiber length, fiber diameter, fiber wall thickness, vessel element length and vessel diameter were recorded as 1329.74 ± 9.03 (C. tribuloides)–1584.57 ± 7.79 μm (C. echinocarpa), 22.72 ± 2.76 (C. indica)–30.30 ± 7.89 μm (C. armata), 7.91 ± 1.77 (C. tribuloides)–8.95 ± 2.10 μm (C. hystrix), 722.28 ± 7.20 (C. tribuloides)–860.81 ± 13.52 μm (C. indica), 225.73 ± 29.49 (C. hystrix)–256 ± 31.06 μm (C. armata). Minimum and maximum vessel frequency were observed as 3.8 per mm2 (C. armata) and 5.2 per mm2 (C. tribuloides), while, minimum and maximum rays per mm were observed in C. hystrix and C. tribuloides. Variance ratio (F test) indicated the occurrence of significant differences among wood element dimensions except wall thickness of Castanopsis. Also, no correlation was observed between these wood elements except vessel frequency and wall thickness (r = −0.931*).

TL;DR: A new approach for efficiently extracting cognition out of a total of 56 different classes of handwritten Manipuri Meetei-Mayek (Indian language) is being described, with the robust k-Nearest Neighbor tweaked suitably to recognize all the 56 classes of the script.
Abstract: In this paper, a new approach for efficiently extracting cognition out of a total of 56 different classes of handwritten Manipuri Meetei-Mayek (Indian language) is being described. Although character recognition algorithms has been researched and developed for other Indian scripts, no research work has been reported so far for recognising all the characters of the Manipuri Meetei-Mayek. The work begins with a thorough literature survey of existing works which highlighted the need of a good feature extractor as a pre-requisite for training the classifier. The limitations are experimentally removed using multiple sized cell grids using Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) descriptors as feature extractor. HOG being a gradient based descriptor is very efficient in data discrimination and very stable with illumination variation. For efficient classfication of the HOG features of the Manipuri Meetei-Mayek, the robust k-Nearest Neighbor was tweaked suitably to recognize all the 56 classes of the script. The proposed approach resulted in an overall accuracy of 94.29% with a training time of about 540.81 seconds.

TL;DR: In this article, four novel Mn(III) porphyrins have been synthesized and characterized by UV-Vis, IR, ESI-mass spectroscopy, elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility studies, TLC, and conductivity measurements.
Abstract: Four novel Mn(III) porphyrins have been synthesized and characterized by UV-Vis, IR, ESI-mass spectroscopy, elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility studies, TLC, and conductivity measurements. The tentative structure has been proposed. Depolymerization of coal using the synthesized Mn(III) porphyrins have been demonstrated by the optical density method using humic acid as a model of coal. The synthesized complexes have shown excellent depolymerization activity based on comparative studies. Complexes have been successfully applied for the catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol, aniline, benzoin, and benzaldehyde into benzaldehyde, nitrobenzene, benzil, and benzoic acid, respectively, at room temperature and pressure.
