Abstract: The Raman spectra of Terepthalylidene-bis-p-n-declyaniline (TBDA), have been recorded as a function of temperature in the temperature range from 55.0°C (solid) to 199.0°C (isotropic liquid) in the 1100–1200cm−1 and 1520–1650cm−1 regions. The precise values of peak positions, integrated intensities and linewidths of some selected Raman bands have been obtained by deconvoluting the bands. The changes in the molecular alignment and its effect on inter/intra molecular interactions at two particular phase transitions viz., solid-smectic G (K-SG ) and smectic I-Smectic C (SI-Sc ) have been discussed on the basis of variation in the Raman spectral parameters with temperature. From detailed considerations, it is inferred that the increased orientational/vibrational freedom of long alkyl chain on the core is responsible for major spectral changes at the K-SG transition while the changes in the intramolecular interactions of the core part with increased fluidity, is responsible for spectral anomalies at th...

Abstract: In this study, an attempt is made to check the suitability of TPM approach and present software to estimate reference evapotranspiration based on TPM and Hargreaves–Samani (HS) method by using Visual Basic Environment. Considering the FAO-56 Penman–Monteith (FAOPM) as the standard model, the comparative performances of selected methods were evaluated under the climatic condition of Umaim, Meghalaya, India. Using the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE)’ and ‘correlation coefficient (r)’ as statistical measures of ‘goodness-of-fit’ the regression analysis was carried out. Based on the regression analysis TPM (RMSE = 0.014 mm day−1, r = 0.92) was found better followed by HS (RMSE = 0.054 mm day−1, r = 0.87). The average overestimate (e.g. 1.97 %) by TPM were found to be in close agreement with the FAOPM. These results support the use of the TPM approach under limiting climatic data conditions for Umaim.

Abstract: From the inception of commercialization of biodiesel, feedstock scarcity is a major issue to be pondered upon in developing countries. In this study, an attempt has been made to use an abundantly available underutilized high oil content (67% of Nahar seed kernel) feedstock derived biodiesel in a compression ignition engine. The experimental investigation on diesel engine reveals slightly reduced brake thermal efficiency and excellent exhaust emissions up to 40% blending of Nahar biodiesel with conventional diesel fuel. At full load, compared to diesel fuel, the BTE dropped by 1.64% and 1.83%, whereas the BSFC increased by 5.07% and 6.76% for B30 and B40 blends, respectively. The tested emission parameters such as CO, HC, NOx, and smoke were decreased by 12.66%, 17.99%, 8.31%, and 10.61% for B30 and 4.87%, 12.76%, 7.98%, and 11.78% for B40, respectively, compared to diesel fuel.Abbreviation: BD: Biodiesel; DF: Diesel fuel

Abstract: Understanding the molecular mode of action of natural product is a key step for developing drugs from them. In this regard, this study is aimed to understand the molecular-level interactions of chemical constituents of Clerodendrum colebrookianum Walp., with anti-hypertensive drug targets using computational approaches. The plant has ethno-medicinal importance for the treatment of hypertension and reported to show activity against anti-hypertensive drug targets-Rho-associated coiled-coil protein kinase (ROCK), angiotensin-converting enzyme, and phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5). Docking studies showed that three chemical constituents (acteoside, martinoside, and osmanthuside β6) out of 21 reported from the plant to interact with the anti-hypertensive drug targets with good glide score. In addition, they formed H-bond interactions with the key residues Met156/Met157 of ROCK I/ROCK II and Gln817 of PDE5. Further, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of protein-ligand complexes suggest that H-bond interactions between acteoside/osmanthuside β6 and Met156/Met157 (ROCK I/ROCK II), acteoside and Gln817 (PDE5) were stable. The present investigation suggests that the anti-hypertensive activity of the plant is due to the interaction of acteoside and osmanthuside β6 with ROCK and PDE5 drug targets. The identified molecular mode of binding of the plant constituents could help to design new drugs to treat hypertension.
