TL;DR: This site, dating from 40,000 to 30,000 years ago, is the highest Paleolithic archaeological site yet identified globally and has yielded an abundant blade tool assemblage, indicating hitherto-unknown capacities for the survival of modern humans who camped in this environment.
Abstract: The Tibetan Plateau is the highest and one of the most demanding environments ever inhabited by humans. We investigated the timing and mechanisms of its initial colonization at the Nwya Devu site, located nearly 4600 meters above sea level. This site, dating from 40,000 to 30,000 years ago, is the highest Paleolithic archaeological site yet identified globally. Nwya Devu has yielded an abundant blade tool assemblage, indicating hitherto-unknown capacities for the survival of modern humans who camped in this environment. This site deepens the history of the peopling of the "roof of the world" and the antiquity of human high-altitude occupations more generally.

TL;DR: By applying the support vector classification method, models for predicting the GFA of binary metallic alloys from random compositions are developed and suggest that machine learning is very powerful and efficient and has great potential for discovering new metallic glasses with good GFA.
Abstract: The prediction of the glass-forming ability (GFA) by varying the composition of alloys is a challenging problem in glass physics, as well as a problem for industry, with enormous financial ramifications. Although different empirical guides for the prediction of GFA were established over decades, a comprehensive model or approach that is able to deal with as many variables as possible simultaneously for efficiently predicting good glass formers is still highly desirable. Here, by applying the support vector classification method, we develop models for predicting the GFA of binary metallic alloys from random compositions. The effect of different input descriptors on GFA were evaluated, and the best prediction model was selected, which shows that the information related to liquidus temperatures plays a key role in the GFA of alloys. On the basis of this model, good glass formers can be predicted with high efficiency. The prediction efficiency can be further enhanced by improving larger database and refined i...

TL;DR: In this article, an interprovincial input-output modeling is carried out to address demand-derived energy requirements for the regional economies in 2007 based on the recently available data, and significant net transfers of embodied energy flows are identified from the central and western areas to the eastern area via interregional trade.

TL;DR: In this paper, a first principles study of spin transport under finite bias through a graphene−ferromagnet (FM) interface, where FM = Co(111), Ni(111).
Abstract: We report a first principles study of spin transport under finite bias through a graphene−ferromagnet (FM) interface, where FM = Co(111), Ni(111). The use of Co and Ni electrodes achieves spin efficiencies reaching 80% and 60%, respectively. This large spin filtering results from the materials specific interaction between graphene and the FM which destroys the linear dispersion relation of the graphene bands and leads to an opening of spin-dependent energy gaps of ≈0.4−0.5 eV at the K points. The minority spin band gap resides higher in energy than the majority spin band gap located near EF, a feature that results in large minority spin dominated currents.

TL;DR: The mechanism of Sr2+ adsorbed by the as-prepared adsorbent was studied through FTIR and XPS analysis, which indicated that the tertiary amines and carboxylate from grafted EDTA participated in the adsorption of Sr 2+.
