TL;DR: This article used the standard contrarian portfolio approach to examine short-horizon return predictability in 24 US futures markets and found strong evidence of weekly return reversals, similar to the findings from equity market studies.
Abstract: We use the standard contrarian portfolio approach to examine short-horizon return predictability in 24 US futures markets. We find strong evidence of weekly return reversals, similar to the findings from equity market studies. When interacting between past returns and lagged changes in trading activity (volume and/or open interest), we find that the profits to contrarian portfolio strategies are, on average, positively associated with lagged changes in trading volume, but negatively related to lagged changes in open interest. We also show that futures return predictability is more pronounced if interacting between past returns and lagged changes in both volume and open interest. Our results suggest that futures market overreaction exists, and both past prices and trading activity contain useful information about future market movements. These findings have implications for futures market efficiency and are useful for futures market participants, particularly commodity pool operators.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors conduct a bibliometric analysis of leadership articles and provide a different perspective by portraying the landscape and developmental trajectory of leadership research over time via co-citations and co-occurrence analyses.
Abstract: Complementing prior quantitative and qualitative reviews of the leadership literature, we conduct a bibliometric analysis of leadership articles. Our bibliometric review provides a different perspective by portraying the landscape and developmental trajectory of leadership research over time via co-citation and co-occurrence analyses. Using a scientific visualization tool CiteSpace and 6528 leadership works collected from the Web of Science database from 1990 to 2017, we detect and visualize the landscape of leadership research and track how this landscape has evolved. After mapping the landscape, we discuss the insights gleaned from our bibliometric review, with a focus on open questions, future research directions, and implications. In doing so, our review provides readers with a systematic understanding of the development of the leadership field and a roadmap to spark leadership research and move this literature forward.

TL;DR: It is proved that the difference between the numerical solution and the solution of the time-discrete system isτ-independent, whereτ denotes the time stepsize, and numerical solution in W1,∞ is bounded and optimal error estimates can be obtained in a traditional way.
Abstract: The paper is concerned with the unconditional stability and convergence of characteristics type methods for the time-dependent Navier---Stokes equations. We present optimal error estimates in $$L^2$$L2 and $$H^1$$H1 norms for a typical modified characteristics finite element method unconditionally, while all previous works require certain time-step restrictions. The analysis is based on an iterated characteristic time-discrete system, with which the error function is split into a temporal error and a spatial error. With a rigorous analysis to the characteristic time-discrete system, we prove that the difference between the numerical solution and the solution of the time-discrete system is $$\tau $$?-independent, where $$\tau $$? denotes the time stepsize. Thus numerical solution in $$W^{1,\infty }$$W1,? is bounded and optimal error estimates can be obtained in a traditional way. Numerical results confirm our analysis and show clearly the unconditional stability and convergence of the modified characteristics finite element method for the time-dependent Navier---Stokes equations. The approach used in this paper can be easily extended to many other characteristics-based methods.

TL;DR: The authors examined how perceived organizational instrumentality (the extent to which employees believe that OCB contributes to the functionality and effectiveness of their work unit or organization) and perceived individual instrumentality relate to employee engagement in OCB and how these perceptions mediate the effects of leadership on OCB.
Abstract: This study seeks to examine how perceived organizational instrumentality (the extent to which employees believe that OCB contributes to the functionality and effectiveness of their work unit or organization) and perceived individual instrumentality (the extent to which employees believe that OCB is important to their own interests) relate to employee engagement in OCB and how these perceptions mediate the effects of leadership on OCB Matched surveys from 161 supervisor–subordinate dyads in a mid-sized financial company in China provided data for analysis The subordinates completed measures of perceived organizational and individual instrumentalities, transformational leadership, and contingent-reward leadership Supervisors rated subordinates’ OCB Results revealed that perceived organizational instrumentality was related to and explained variance in OCB beyond perceived individual instrumentality Moreover, perceived organizational and individual instrumentalities partially mediated between leadership (transformational leadership and contingent reward) and OCB Elevating OCB-specific instrumentality beliefs and educating employees about the importance of OCB for the functionality and effectiveness of their work unit or organization can help promote OCB Effective leadership can contribute to the development of stronger perceptions of organizational and individual instrumentalities, and lead to greater OCB This study represents the first attempt to empirically examine perceived organizational instrumentality and consider both organizational and individual instrumentalities in mediating the association between leadership and OCB

TL;DR: Rice could be a significant global dietary source of human methylmercury exposure, especially in South and Southeast Asia, and anthropogenic biovectors such as crops should be considered in the global mercury cycle.
Abstract: Protecting the environment and enhancing food security are among the world's greatest challenges. Fish consumption is widely considered to be the single significant dietary source of methylmercury. Nevertheless, by synthesizing data from the past six decades and using a variety of models, we find that rice could be a significant global dietary source of human methylmercury exposure, especially in South and Southeast Asia. In 2013, globalization caused 9.9% of human methylmercury exposure via the international rice trade and significantly aggravated rice-derived exposure in Africa (62%), Central Asia (98%) and Europe (42%). In 2016, 180 metric tons of mercury were generated in rice plants, 14-fold greater than that exported from oceans via global fisheries. We suggest that future research should consider both the joint ingestion of rice with fish and the food trade in methylmercury exposure assessments, and anthropogenic biovectors such as crops should be considered in the global mercury cycle.
