TL;DR: The wafer-scale epitaxial growth of highly oriented continuous and uniform monolayer MoS2 films on single-crystalline sapphire wafers by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method would facilitate the scalable fabrication of various electronic, valleytronic, and optoelectronic devices for practical applications.
Abstract: Large scale epitaxial growth and transfer of monolayer MoS2 has attracted great attention in recent years. Here, we report the wafer-scale epitaxial growth of highly oriented continuous and uniform monolayer MoS2 films on single-crystalline sapphire wafers by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The epitaxial film is of high quality and stitched by many 0°, 60° domains and 60°-domain boundaries. Moreover, such wafer-scale monolayer MoS2 films can be transferred and stacked by a simple stamp-transfer process, and the substrate is reusable for subsequent growth. Our progress would facilitate the scalable fabrication of various electronic, valleytronic, and optoelectronic devices for practical applications.

TL;DR: This paper investigates matching a response with its multi-turn context using dependency information based entirely on attention using Transformer in machine translation and extends the attention mechanism in two ways, which jointly introduce those two kinds of attention in one uniform neural network.
Abstract: Human generates responses relying on semantic and functional dependencies, including coreference relation, among dialogue elements and their context. In this paper, we investigate matching a response with its multi-turn context using dependency information based entirely on attention. Our solution is inspired by the recently proposed Transformer in machine translation (Vaswani et al., 2017) and we extend the attention mechanism in two ways. First, we construct representations of text segments at different granularities solely with stacked self-attention. Second, we try to extract the truly matched segment pairs with attention across the context and response. We jointly introduce those two kinds of attention in one uniform neural network. Experiments on two large-scale multi-turn response selection tasks show that our proposed model significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art models.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated via numerical simulation that thermal (phononic) information stored in the memory can be retained for a long time without being lost and more importantly can be read out without being destroyed.
Abstract: Memory is an indispensible element for a computer in addition to logic gates. In this Letter we report a model of thermal memory. We demonstrate via numerical simulation that thermal (phononic) information stored in the memory can be retained for a long time without being lost and more importantly can be read out without being destroyed. The possibility of experimental realization is also discussed.

TL;DR: L Luo and his coworkers have developed a new approach to construct DNA hydrogels, which are crosslinked networks swollen in an aqueous phase and lack precise structural control and specifi c responses.
Abstract: or used as a programmable template to direct the assembly of nanoparticles. [ 14–17 ] Recently, the concept of DNA assembly has been expanded to construct “DNA hydrogels”, which are crosslinked networks swollen in an aqueous phase. [ 18–31 ] Though hydrogels have great potential in biological and medical applications, [ 32–36 ] such as drug and gene delivery, biosensing, and tissue engineering, studying the preparation of DNA hydrogels with designable properties is still in its early stages. In the past, several methods have been reported to prepare DNA hydrogels, for example, DNA directly extracted from the nucleus in nature, behaves like a long linear polymer and forms a hydrogel via physical entanglement or by chemical crosslinking of small molecules. [ 18 − 20] Similarly, DNA can be used as a negatively charged polymer and form a complex with cationic (poly)electrolytes through electrostatic interactions. [ 21 , 22 ] However, both methods treated DNA as a polymer and did not take advantage of the self-assembly of DNA into ordered structures, therefore, the resulting hydrogels lacked precise structural control and specifi c responses. Instead of using physical interactions, DNA can be covalently grafted onto synthetic polymers and serve as a cross-linker, the recognition of complementary DNA strands leads to crosslinking of polymer chains and causes hydrogel formation. [ 23 − 28] In general, the preparation of a DNA-polymer hybrid requires laborious modifi cation steps, and an easy and fast strategy to build tailored DNA hydrogels is desired. Luo and his coworkers have developed a new approach to construct

TL;DR: The results showed that slime and TB-EPS (tightly bound EPS) were closely related with water quality and sludge morphology, and could be used as the indicators for anammox microbial survival ability and microbial aggregate morphology.
Abstract: Sludge aggregation and biofilm formation are the most effective approaches to solve the washout of anammox microorganisms. In this study, the structure and composition of EPS (extracellular polymeric substances) were investigated to elucidate the factors for the anammox aggregation property. Anammox sludge taken from 18 lab-scale and pilot-scale reactors treating different types of wastewater was analyzed using EEM-PARAFAC (excitation–emission matrix and parallel factor analysis), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) and real-time PCR combined with multivariate statistical analysis. The results showed that slime and TB-EPS (tightly bound EPS) were closely related with water quality and sludge morphology, and could be used as the indicators for anammox microbial survival ability and microbial aggregate morphology. Furthermore, slime secreted from anammox bacterial cells may be exhibited higher viscosity to the sludge surface and easily formed the gel network to aggregate. Large amounts of hydroph...
