Abstract: This paper describes three-dimensional (3D) large eddy simulations of stellar surface convection using realistic model physics. The simulations include the present Sun, a subgiant of one solar mass and a lower-gravity subgiant, also of one solar mass. We examine the thermal structure (superadiabaticity) after modification by 3D turbulence, the overshoot of convective motions into the radiative atmosphere and the range of convection cell sizes. Differences between models based on the mixing length theory (MLT) and the simulations are found to increase significantly in the more evolved stages as the surface gravity decreases. We find that the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the turbulent vertical velocity correlation provides a good objective measure of the vertical size of the convective cells. Just below the convection surface, the FWHM is close to the mean vertical size of the granules and 2 × FWHM is close to the mean horizontal diameter of the granules. For the Sun, 2 × FWHM = 1200 km, a value close to the observed mean granule size. For all the simulations, the mean horizontal diameter is close to 10 times the pressure scaleheight at the photospheric surface, in agreement with previous work.

Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which male and female leaders report engaging in participative versus directive intellectually stimulating transformational leadership behaviour across three different contexts (business, government and military).Design/methodology/approach – Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 64 senior leaders (29 female and 35 male) across Canada.Findings – Leaders were more likely to describe using a participative versus directive approach to intellectual stimulation. Gender similarities and differences also appeared across contexts: government leaders reported almost twice as many directive examples as business leaders, and men and women in both of these contexts were very similar in their reports about how they enacted intellectual stimulation. In contrast, men and women in the military diverged, with male leaders reporting more participative behaviour than female leaders.Research limitations/implications – This study extends the leadersh...

Ce qui reste peu clair, c'est comment l'âge, en tant que relation de puissance, se manifeste dans le contexte d'une diaspora. Par exemple, quel est l'apport de l'experience occidentale de l'adolescence dans le processus identitaire ? l'auteure s'appuie sur le concept de Twine appeleevenement frontalier, qui s'adresse speci-fiquement a l'experience de racialisation de l'adolescente. Abstract: The northeast part of the Czech Republic (Moravia) and the adjoining part of Poland host a 100-km-long and 15- to 25-km-wide belt containing numerous isolated bodies (mainly sills) of lamprophyre of Lower Cretaceous age. The lamprophyres range from mafic (melanocratic) to evolved, feldspar-rich (mesocratic) variants. Mineralogically, they are characterized by compositionally zoned kaersutite phenocrysts, biotite and high Al–Ti salitic to diopsidic clinopyroxene. The lamprophyres are typically alkaline as shown by high contents of P2O5, TiO2, alkalies and incompatible trace elements such as light REE, Zr, Nb, Y, Ba and Sr, and by high Ti/V (>50) and chondrite-normalized (La/Yb)n (8–25) ratios. They resemble alkali basalts, basanites and nephelinites. Major element composition and trace element patterns and Nd–Sr isotopic values (eNd ca. +5.5 to +6.6 and eSr ca. –9.5 to –24.0) indicate that the lamprophyric magma was derived from a mantle source that was compositionally similar to the source of ocean island basalts with HIMU affinities and some continental extension-related alkali basaltic suites. The lamprophyres do not show any subduction imprint. They were generated in the garnet stability field by a variable degree of melting. Evolved lamprophyres were formed by clinopyroxene-dominated fractional crystallization of mafic lamprophyric magma. The lamprophyres are interpreted to have been emplaced along conduits formed during the formation of a basin/graben structure in the Early Cretaceous.
