TL;DR: In this article, synthetic conditions were evaluated to intercalate norbixin into layered double hydroxides (LDH) and the inorganic layers were found to enhance the thermal stability of norbrixin upon intercalation.
Abstract: Synthetic conditions were evaluated to intercalate norbixin into layered double hydroxides (LDH). Norbixin was isolated from a hydrosoluble commercial annatto extract. LDH samples comprising M2+/Al3+ (M = Mg, Zn) were synthesized by coprecipitation and characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis coupled to mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopies, and solid-state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance. Radical scavenging activity of LDH hybrids was monitored by electron paramagnetic resonance towards the stable radical DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl). LDH hosts presented more than 50 wt.% of norbixin and d-spacing (003) values of about 2.5 or 3.0 nm depending of the cation LDH composition. Vibrational spectra assignment (supported by density functional theory calculations) confirmed the chemical integrity of norbixin after intercalation into LDH. The inorganic layers were found to enhance the thermal stability of norbixin upon intercalation. The free radical scavenging capacity of norbixin was retained when immobilized into LDH. Considering that zinc and magnesium-LDH matrices are biocompatible and that norbixin presents biological activity, the hybrid materials appear as promising systems for biomedical assessment.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed the FORESAM, a mechanism for resource management and allocation based on a set of FOGs which control vehicular cloud resources in the urban environment, which aims to assist the allocation decision of resources set that meets the period requested service.
Abstract: The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) has the objective quality of transportation improvement through transportation system monitoring and management and makes the trip more comfortable and safer for drivers and passengers. The mobile clouds can assist the ITS in handling the resource management problem. However, resource allocation management in an ITS is challenging due to vehicular network characteristics, such as high mobility and dynamic topology. With that in mind, we propose the FORESAM, a mechanism for resources management and allocation based on a set of FOGs which control vehicular cloud resources in the urban environment. The mechanism is based on a more accurate mathematical model (Multiple Attribute Decision), which aims to assist the allocation decision of resources set that meets the period requested service. The simulation results have shown that the proposed solution allows a higher number of services, reducing the number of locks of services with its accuracy. Furthermore, its resource allocation is more balanced the provided a smaller amount of discarded services.

TL;DR: In this paper, a semi-analytical mathematical model was proposed to estimate the volume fraction of the eutectoid mixture of the Cu-8.5wt % Sn alloy.
Abstract: The Cu-8.5wt % Sn alloy presents an extensive microsegregation during its solidification. That microsegregation results in the formation of a eutectoid mixture, which is detrimental to subsequent forming processes. This study deals with the influence of solidification time and cooling rate on the microstructure of that alloy. The unidirectional solidification technique allowed the acquisition of thermal data. The optical microscopy enabled the microstructural characterization of the material, the measurement of dendrite arm spacings and the quantification of the volume fraction of the eutectoid mixture. A semi-analytical mathematical model was proposed to estimate the volume fraction of the eutectoid mixture. The model expresses the volume fraction as an implicit function of the Fourier number. The results showed that the microstructure is dendritic and that the characteristic spacings increase with the solidification time between the liquidus and the peritectic temperatures. The data also showed that for higher cooling rates the dendrite arm spacings are smaller and that there is a tendency for the volume fraction of eutectoid mixture in the columnar zone to increase with the Fourier number and to decrease with the cooling rate. The proposed model allowed obtaining values of volume fraction with the same order of magnitude of the experimental data, but with behavior tendency opposite to that observed.
