07 Oct 2019TL;DR: This work presents a flexible computational method named GeNWeMME (Gene Network + Weighted Mutations + Mutual Exclusivity), which uses an extensive biological base for prioritizing groups of significant and related genes in cancer.
Abstract: Identifying significant mutations in cancer is a challenging problem in Cancer Genomics. Computational methods for identifying significant mutations have been developed in recent years. In this work, we present a flexible computational method named GeNWeMME (Gene Network + Weighted Mutations + Mutual Exclusivity). Our method uses an extensive biological base for prioritizing groups of significant and related genes in cancer. Our method considers data about mutations, type of mutations, gene interaction networks and mutual exclusivity pattern. All these aspects can be used according to the objective of the analysis by cancer genomics professionals, that can choose weights for each aspect. We test our method in four types of cancer where it was possible to identify known cancer genes and suggest others for further biological validation.

TL;DR: O protocolo foi finalizado com uma linguagem simples e objetiva, acessivel aos profissionais de odontologia, abordando conceitos importantes e de acordo com a legislacao brasileira.
Abstract: The objective of this applied, qualitative and exploratory research was to elaborate Good Practice Guidelines to avoid bad behavior in a dental clinic by its employees. By means of a pre-established script, an interview was conducted with the manager of a dental clinic. The interview was transcribed, and the results were compared with the literature to serve as a basis for the elaboration of the Guidelines. Once drafted, the Guidelines were validated through questionnaires applied to a dentist, a lawyer, and an ethics and governance specialist. The Guidelines were finalized with a simple and objective language, accessible to dental professionals, addressing important concepts and in accordance with Brazilian legislation.

01 Nov 2018TL;DR: Tests showed that the proposed multi-objective formulation of VolUVar control enhances the robustness of system operation, upholding power quality for scenario changes – variations in loading and distribution generation – and, nevertheless, preserving near-optimal loss minimization.
Abstract: Reducing losses in distribution systems is one of the main goals of VolUVar control that has been focused by researchers in decades. Despite the financial benefits, this approach can lead to poor robustness of the system operation if the objective is just achieving minimal losses. In order to ensure power quality supply, even for unforeseen scenario changes, and to reduce power losses, this paper proposes a multi-objective formulation for the VolUVar control. A robustness index is proposed and considered as one of the objective functions. Trade-off solutions, between loss reduction and robustness gain, are searched by a multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm. Tests, carried out in the IEEE 123-bus feeder, showed that the method enhances the robustness of system operation, upholding power quality for scenario changes – variations in loading and distribution generation – and, nevertheless, preserving near-optimal loss minimization. The results encourage on-line applications in the smart grid context.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the view expressed in families' discourse regarding their children's school, and found that listening to the families allows for knowing the place occupied by the school in their lives, elucidating aspects which, when considered, can contribute to the students' school life.
Abstract: The article aims at analyzing the view expressed in families’ discourse regarding their children’s school. Open answers from questionnaires filled in four municipal schools from Campinas, Sao Paulo state, elected by contrast criteria (higher or lower social-economic level) are analyzed. For this analysis, the topics of Education Quality; School-Community Relationship; School Organization; Reasons for School Appreciation; Extra-class Activities; and Security were considered. It is possible to observe a differential view towards school related to social class and that listening to the families allows for knowing the place occupied by the school in their lives, elucidating aspects which are not always clear to professionals that, when considered, can contribute to the students’ school life.
