TL;DR: An analysis of the environment (supermarket) was carried out virtually through the discrete simulation technique, linked to the Arena software, and it was observed that the average length of stay in the queue would be reduced if it contemplates the inclusion of 2 to 3 employees to perform the service.
Abstract: This research presents a case study related to the management of queues in a supermarket and the problems found in the organization of this process. In order to reduce the time that customers remain in the checkout lines, an analysis of the environment (supermarket) was carried out virtually through the discrete simulation technique, linked to the Arena software. This technique is classified as quantitative because it makes it possible to measure entities and predict the action of the environment in a way that mimics the reality of the queues at the site. Through the simulated scenario, it was possible to identify the flaws in the process and the cause of the queuing. Through the results of the simulation, it was observed that the average length of stay in the queue would be reduced by 88.23% if it contemplates the inclusion of 2 to 3 employees to perform the service. Note that the application of this technique is favorable for problem solving and decision-making, as it reduces the time that customers spend in the queue and optimizes the financial investments allocated in this area.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed an algorithm for efficient resource allocation using grey wolves optimization technique, named as Resource Allocation Technique for Edge Computing (RATEC), which adopted the meta-heuristic technique to choose the best Edge when allocating the resources of user equipment (UE).
Abstract: The explosion of IoT technology poses new challenges for researchers in the concept of cloud computing, mainly in improving the distribution of services, which need to be provided with greater efficiency and less latency. Therefore, this work seeks to optimize the methodology of resource allocation in Edge Computing, seeking to improve the quality of service (QoS) to the user. For this, it was developed an algorithm for efficient resource allocation using grey wolves optimization technique, named as Resource Allocation Technique for Edge Computing (RATEC). The algorithm adopted the meta-heuristic technique to choose the best Edge when allocating the resources of user equipment (UE). In this work, it was considered that the UEs are composed of processing, storage, time and memory resources. The algorithm uses these resources to calculate the fitness of each Edge and decide which one to allocate, if available. The RATEC has been compared with two other policies and has managed to serve a number most significant of UEs, reducing the number of services refused and presenting a low number of blockages while searching for an Edge.

TL;DR: A new parallel model based on semantics and the Apache Spark framework for agricultural risk management related to soil quality is presented and a parallel algorithm is proposed to distribute tomographic images of soil to several nodes to ask them for not only pore recognition, but also for soil density and soil compaction measurements from those images.
Abstract: A large volume of data is being produced by agrometeorological stations, satellites, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), agricultural machines, among other equipment's, all used for agricultural management in food production. Related to that, actually, there are demands for the organization of new computational techniques for agricultural risk management. Therefore, the data volume is immense, and there are challenges to execute them based on both conventional algorithms and architectures. This paper presents the organization of a new parallel model based on semantics and the Apache Spark framework for agricultural risk management related to soil quality. Based in such concept, a parallel algorithm is proposed to distribute tomographic images of soil to several nodes, as well as, to ask them for not only pore recognition, but also for soil density and soil compaction measurements from those images. Besides, the developed parallel algorithm allowed to obtain a better performance gains and reduction of the time required to generate maps for agricultural soil quality, i.e., to support decision making in such field of interest.
