TL;DR: Estradiol cytosolic receptor levels were determined in tumor tissue of 73 patients with adenocarcinoma of the uterus and preoperative radiation appeared to interfere with the determination of the tumor's receptor status.

TL;DR: Slices from transplants of 2 secretory adrenocortical tumors were incubated with and without ACTH and the total Δ4-3-ketosteroids quantitatively determined from peak optical densities at 242 mμ.
Abstract: Summary1) Slices from transplants of 2 secretory adrenocortical tumors were incubated with and without ACTH. Incubation mixtures were extracted and the total Δ4-3-ketosteroids quantitatively determ...

TL;DR: No significant differences in effect on ovulation indices or on steroid output were found at the various dosages or with the several estrogens employed, however breakthrough bleeding was less when the dose was doubled and side-effects were more frequently noted when estrogen was added.
Abstract: Data on the effects of preparations containing no detectable estroge nic contaminant and also with an estrogen supplement are reported. Preparations used in previously reported studies have been found to contain varying amounts of estrogenic contaminant. 17-ethinyl-19-nortes tosterone norethynodrel and 17-ethyl-19-nortestosterone were tested and additional observations of pregnanediol and 17-ketosteroid excretion made in 4 groups of women on various regimens. No significant differences in effect on ovulation indices or on steroid output were found at the various dosages or with the several estrogens employed. However breakthrough bleeding was less when the dose was doubled. With 19-nor steroid plus estrogen breakthrough bleeding was less than with other preparations. Side-effects were more frequently noted when estrogen was added. These reactions decreased after the first cycle. When tablets were missed for several days significant premature bleeding occurred. No pregnancies occurred in the 1279 cycles when no tablets were missed. Pregnancies occurred in 2 of 282 cycles where 1-5 tablets had been missed and in 3 of 151 cycles where 6 or more tablets had been missed. Endometrial changes indicated a prompt progestational action. This was followed by a glandular regression accompanied by stromal stimulation. In postmedication cycles normal cyclic endometrial changes were rapidly reestablished.
