In this paper, two fuzzy versions of the k-means optimal, least squared error partitioning problem are formulated for finite subsets X of a general inner product space, and the extremizing solutions are shown to be fixed points of a certain operator T on the class of fuzzy, k-partitions of X, and simple iteration of T provides an algorithm which has the descent property relative to the LSE criterion function.Abstract:
Two fuzzy versions of the k-means optimal, least squared error partitioning problem are formulated for finite subsets X of a general inner product space. In both cases, the extremizing solutions are shown to be fixed points of a certain operator T on the class of fuzzy, k-partitions of X, and simple iteration of T provides an algorithm which has the descent property relative to the least squared error criterion function. In the first case, the range of T consists largely of ordinary (i.e. non-fuzzy) partitions of X and the associated iteration scheme is essentially the well known ISODATA process of Ball and Hall. However, in the second case, the range of T consists mainly of fuzzy partitions and the associated algorithm is new; when X consists of k compact well separated (CWS) clusters, Xi , this algorithm generates a limiting partition with membership functions which closely approximate the characteristic functions of the clusters Xi . However, when X is not the union of k CWS clusters, the limi...read more

A spectral-based clustering for structural health monitoring of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
TL;DR: This work focuses on a subset of 800 jack arches under the traffic lane 7 of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and proposes a novel non-model-based method to achieve this objective, using a spectrum-driven feature based on the Spectral Moments (SMs) from measured responses from theJack arches.

A fuzzy c-means variant for the generation of fuzzy term sets
TL;DR: A fuzzy c-means (FCM) variant is proposed for the generation of fuzzy term sets with ½ overlap and a generalized π-shaped function with a tunable parameter along with its complement is developed to fit all term sets generated by the FCM variant using various m values.

Divisive Correlation Clustering Algorithm (DCCA) for grouping of genes
Anindya Bhattacharya,Rajat K. De +1 more
TL;DR: The Divisive Correlation Clustering Algorithm (DCCA) is presented, which produces a clustering solution without taking number of clusters to be created as an input and is found to be more significantly relevant to the biological annotations than those of the other methods.

A Cluster Validity Measure With Outlier Detection for Support Vector Clustering
Wang Jeen-Shing,Chiang Jen-Chieh +1 more
TL;DR: A validity measure, based on a ratio of cluster compactness to separation with outlier detection and a cluster-merging mechanism, has been developed to automatically determine ideal parameters for the kernel functions and soft-margin constants for SVC.
