TLDR
Findings indicate the existence of two different forms of cytochrome P-45011 beta in the rat adrenal cortex, with only one of them, i.e. the 49K form, being capable of catalyzing the two final steps of aldosterone biosynthesis in situ.

Human Cytochrome P450 Enzymes

TL;DR: Human P450s 1A1,6 1A2,7 2A6,8 2C8,9 2C9,9,10 2D67,11,12 and lanosterol 14α-demethylase18 were isolated in this general manner.

Zone-specific expression of aldosterone synthase cytochrome P-450 and cytochrome P-45011 beta in rat adrenal cortex: histochemical basis for the functional zonation.

TL;DR: Results indicate that the angiotensin-II stimuli, which had been elicited by the low Na treatment, promoted proliferation of the glomerulosa cells, resulting in increased expression of cytochrome P-450aldo in rat adrenocortex.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cloning and expression of a cDNA for human cytochrome P-450aldo as related to primary aldosteronism.

TL;DR: The results suggest that P- 450aldo is a variant of P-450(11)beta, but this enzyme is a different gene product possibly playing a major role in the synthesis of aldosterone at least in a patient suffering from primary aldosteronism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Isolation of aldosterone synthase cytochrome P-450 from zona glomerulosa mitochondria of rat adrenal cortex.

TL;DR: At least two forms of cytochrome P-450, which catalyze the 11 beta- and 18-hydroxylations of deoxycorticosterone, exist in rat adrenal cortex, but aldosterone synthesis is catalyzed only by the one present in the zona glomerulosa mitochondria.

TL;DR: Using an improved method of gel electrophoresis, many hitherto unknown proteins have been found in bacteriophage T4 and some of these have been identified with specific gene products as mentioned in this paper.

The synthesis of aldosterone by the adrenal cortex. Two zones (fasciculata and glomerulosa) possess one enzyme for 11 beta-, 18-hydroxylation, and aldehyde synthesis.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the only adrenocortical enzyme capable of synthesizing aldosterone in bovine and porcine adrenal is the well known 11 beta-hydroxylase, that the conversion of 18-hydroxycorticosterone to ald testosterone is catalyzed by this cytochrome P-450, and that this step (aldehyde synthetase) requires the heme of the P- 450 as demonstrated by the photochemical action spectrum.

Role of potassium in the control of aldosterone secretion in the rat.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the potassium ion is an important regulator of adrenal function in the rat, playing a significant role in the mediation of the zona glomerulosa response to sodium depletion.
