Pediatric Acute Otitis Media: The Case for Delayed Antibiotic Treatment

TL;DR: A set of evidence-based guidelines employing a delayed prescription option for antibiotic therapy in selected children will reduce the amount of antibiotics prescribed, increase parental satisfaction, and may lower rates of antibiotic resistance while producing similar rates of resolution of AOM.
Journal ArticleDOI

Obese Hypertensive Men Have Lower Circulating Proatrial Natriuretic Peptide Concentrations Despite Greater Left Atrial Size.

TL;DR: Despite evidence of pressure-induced greater left atrial size, obese hypertensive men have lower circulating MR-proANP concentrations compared with lean normotensive men.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intravenous β-blockers for patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention: A meta-analysis of randomized trials.

TL;DR: Intravenous β-blockers, in STEMI patients (Killip class I or II) undergoing primary PCI, appear to be safe and were associated with a reduced risk of ventricular arrhythmias during hospitalization.

Pathophysiology of Heat Stroke

Lisa R. Leon
TL;DR: Endotoxin leakage across ischemic-damaged gut membranes is thought to initiate the SIRS with cytokines and other inflammatory mediators involved in this multi-factoria involving multi-organ system dysfunction or death.
Journal ArticleDOI

Murine postthymectomy autoimmune oophoritis develops in association with a persistent neonatal-like Th2 response.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the postnatal shift to the normal adult Th1/Th2 balance is established by a thymus-dependent process and the possibility that specific genetic defects, as yet to be determined, might mimic the effect of neonatal thymectomy in this model, impair the development of normal Th2 balance, and be a cause autoimmunity is raised.

Manifestations of Immunologic Unresponsiveness in Hodgkin's Disease

Alan C. Aisenberg
- 01 Jun 1966 -
TL;DR: It is suggested that the anergy of early Hodgkin's disease is a peripheral defect; a manifestation of abnormal lymphocyte function; this suggestion is supported by preliminary work with Hodgkins lymphocytes in vitro and following lymphocyte transfer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Zinc deficiency: effect on brain of the suckling rat.

TL;DR: Zinc deficiency has been showed to impair DNA and protein synthesis in brain of the suckling rat as it has previously been shown to do in other tissues including liver and epiphyseal plate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cœliac disease and schizophrenia

Journal ArticleDOI

Symptomatic pulmonary emphysema in childhood associated with hereditary alpha-1-antitrypsin and elastase inhibitor deficiency.

TL;DR: Genetic studies of sera from 55 family members were performed by means of functional assays of elastase inhibition and total antitryptic activity and by measurements of alpha-1-antitrypsin concentration with a newly developed sensitive electroimmunodiffusion method.
