The extended ADL scale could be used as a postal questionnaire to assist in the follow-up of patients discharged home after a stroke and can be monitored and patients can also be compared on the basis of their scale score.
Abstract
A ranked assessment of daily living (ADL) scale has been developed to assess activities which may be important to stroke patients who have been discharged home. A questionnaire incorporating 22 ADL activities in four sections was sent by post to 80 consecutively registered stroke patients. Gutmann scaling was carried out on the returned questionnaires, producing acceptable coefficients of reproducibility and scalability. The revised questionnaire was then sent to 20 stroke patients. The same patients were sent an identical questionnaire two weeks later. The overall level of agreement between the two assessments was satisfactory. The extended ADL scale could therefore be used as a postal questionnaire to assist in the follow-up of patients discharged home after a stroke. Due to the scaling properties of the assessment, patient's progress can be monitored and patients can also be compared on the basis of their scale score.

Does surface neuromuscular electrical stimulation (sNMES) to the upper limb following acute stroke improve outcome

TL;DR: A 4-week programme of sNMES to the shoulder does not improve functional outcome following acute stroke and may worsen arm function in certain stroke patients.

Effect of occupational therapy home visit discharge planning on participation after stroke: protocol for the HOME Rehab trial

TL;DR: The Home Rehab trial as discussed by the authors evaluated the effect and potential cost-effectiveness of an enhanced occupational therapy discharge planning intervention that involves pre and post-discharge home visits, goal setting and occupational therapy in the home (the HOME programme) in comparison to an in-hospital predischarge planning intervention.

Effects, barriers and facilitators in predischarge home assessments to improve the transition of care from the inpatient care to home in adult patients: an integrative review

An occupational therapist-led vocational intervention for people with stroke: study protocol for a single-centre individually-randomised controlled pilot trial (Preprint)

TL;DR: The Work trial as discussed by the authors is a 2-arm, prospective, randomized, blinded-assessor study with intention-to-treat analysis, where a total of 54 adults of working age who have experienced a stroke <4 months prior will be randomized 1:1 to either (1) an experimental group who will receive a 12-week early vocational intervention (Work intervention) plus usual clinical rehabilitation or (2) a control group which will receive only their usual Clinical rehabilitation.

A cluster analysis approach for the determination of a fall risk level classification

TL;DR: The method based on a cluster analysis to set up this fall risk level classification is presented and a limited number of easily accessible biomechanics predictors can be determined and help care providers to earlier and better prevent fall.

A Coefficient of agreement for nominal Scales

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a procedure for having two or more judges independently categorize a sample of units and determine the degree, significance, and significance of the units. But they do not discuss the extent to which these judgments are reproducible, i.e., reliable.

Social activities after stroke: Measurement and natural history using the Frenchay Activities Index

TL;DR: A method of assessing general activities of stroke patients is described: the Frenchay Activities Index (FAI), a scale comprising 15 individual activities summed to give an overall score from 0 (low) to 45 (high), to establish the validity and reliability of the index.

The significance of intensity of rehabilitation of stroke--a controlled trial.

TL;DR: In this article, the functional recovery of stroke, measured by ADL and motor function was significantly better in the intensive treatment group compared to the normal treatment group, and there was no difference in institutionalization or incidence of death between the groups.
