TLDR
The basement membrane (BM) as mentioned in this paper is a specialized form of extracellular matrix (ECM) which mediates tissue compartmentalization and sends signals to epithelial cells about the external microenvironment.
Abstract
In recent years, the basement membrane (BM)--a specialized form of extracellular matrix (ECM)--has been recognized as an important regulator of cell behaviour, rather than just a structural feature of tissues. The BM mediates tissue compartmentalization and sends signals to epithelial cells about the external microenvironment. The BM is also an important structural and functional component of blood vessels, constituting an extracellular microenvironment sensor for endothelial cells and pericytes. Vascular BM components have recently been found to be involved in the regulation of tumour angiogenesis, making them attractive candidate targets for potential cancer therapies.

Extracellular Matrix and Tissue Regeneration

TL;DR: Extracellular matrix (ECM) is a complex interlinked composite of collagenous molecules, non-collagenous molecules and water-rich mucopolysaccharide ground substance as discussed by the authors.

TIMP-2 modulates VEGFR-2 phosphorylation and enhances phosphodiesterase activity in endothelial cells

TL;DR: The results show that Ala+TIMP-2 selectively alters the phosphorylation pattern of VEGFR-2 after VEGF-A stimulation and disrupts the downstream activation of PLC-γ, Ca+2 flux, Akt, and eNOS, as well as decreasing cGMP levels.

Urokinase type plasminogen activator mediates Interleukin-17-induced peripheral blood mesenchymal stem cell motility and transendothelial migration.

TL;DR: The data suggested that IL-17 may act as chemotropic factor for PB-MSCs by incrementing cell motility and uPA expression during inflammation development, in an uPA-dependent fashion.

Sorafenib analogue SC-60 induces apoptosis through the SHP-1/STAT3 pathway and enhances docetaxel cytotoxicity in triple-negative breast cancer cells.

TL;DR: A sorafenib analogue SC‐60, which lacks angiokinase inhibition activity, but acts as a SHP‐1 agonist, displayed a significant antitumor effect in an MDA‐MB‐468 xenograft model by modulating the SHp‐1/STAT3 axis, indicating the anticancer potential ofSC‐60 in TNBC treatment.

The role of DJ-1 in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.

TL;DR: Abnormally high levels of DJ-1 expression may be involved in endometriosis, possibly by stimulating endometrial cell survival, proliferation, migration, and invasion.

Angiogenesis in cancer and other diseases

TL;DR: Pathological angiogenesis is a hallmark of cancer and various ischaemic and inflammatory diseases and integrated understanding is leading to the development of a number of exciting and bold approaches to treat cancer and other diseases, but owing to several unanswered questions, caution is needed.
