In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
Abstract
In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered. The degradation of the bit error rate (BER), caused by the presence of carrier frequency offset and carrier phase noise is analytically evaluated. It is shown that for a given BER degradation, the values of the frequency offset and the linewidth of the carrier generator that are allowed for OFDM are orders of magnitude smaller than for single carrier systems carrying the same bit rate. >

Channel-independent non-data aided synchronization of generalized multiuser OFDM

TL;DR: An approximate analytic expression for the variance of the frequency offset estimators as a function of the number of active users and the SNR is derived and it is shown that the performance of the algorithms is asymptotically independent of the channel zero locations for quasi-synchronous systems.

Robust Mobile WiMax preamble detection

TL;DR: A new detection metric is proposed that takes advantage of the redundancy in both the preamble and its cyclic prefix as well as compensates for the model mismatch and is shown to offer improved performance of timing estimates over existing techniques, specifically in multipath and low SNR environments.

Adaptive compensation of frequency selective IQ imbalance and carrier frequency offset for ofdm based receivers

TL;DR: In this paper, the joint effect of frequency selective IQ imbalance at the receiver under carrier frequency offset is studied and a frequency domain per-tone equalizer based receiver structure obtained by transferring a time domain equalizer (TEQ) to the frequency domain is proposed.

Bit error rate performance of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing relaying systems with high power amplifiers and Doppler effects

TL;DR: It was shown that the resulting intercarrier interference due to the cumulative effects of the phase noise generated by these impairments per hop becomes very significant in a multihop relaying communication system and severely degrades the bit error rate performance of the system.

Fast coarse frequency offset estimation for OFDM systems by using differentially modulated subcarriers

TL;DR: A fast coarse estimation method of carrier frequency offset for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems using a burst mode transmission that reveals similar estimation performance to the case of a conventional cross-correlation-based method for practical range of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Performance of an RCPC-coded OFDM-based digital audio broadcasting (DAB) system

The effect of interpolation on the BER performance of narrowband BPSK and (O)QPSK on Rician-fading channels

TL;DR: By means of theoretical analysis, it is demonstrated that even simple interpolators, operating at only a few samples per symbol, yield BER degradations that are limited to a small fraction of a dB.

Digital HDTV broadcasting over the CATV distribution system

TL;DR: This contribution deals with the digital broadcasting of HDTV channels over the cable television (CATV) distribution system, using either single-carrier QAM or an orthogonal frequency division multiplex of many QAM carriers to represent an HDTV channel.
