In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
Abstract
In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered. The degradation of the bit error rate (BER), caused by the presence of carrier frequency offset and carrier phase noise is analytically evaluated. It is shown that for a given BER degradation, the values of the frequency offset and the linewidth of the carrier generator that are allowed for OFDM are orders of magnitude smaller than for single carrier systems carrying the same bit rate. >

Influence and suppression of phase noise in multi-antenna OFDM

TL;DR: Simulation results reveal that the difference in bit-error-rate performance between systems applying the LSE or MLE of the CPE is very small, which implies that the L SE is well applicable for 802.11a based MIMO systems.

On the sensitivity of multicarrier transmission over multipath channels to phase noise and frequency offset

TL;DR: The sensitivity of multicarrier transmission over a multipath channel, to the phase impairment is addressed and the degradation of the performance of the system with the BPSK and QPSK signaling due to the variance of phase error, carrier frequency offset, delay spread of the multipath channels as well as the number of carriers is investigated.

Matching pursuits channel estimation for an underwater acoustic OFDM modem

TL;DR: Sparse channel estimation algorithms are proposed for underwater acoustic Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) communications in time-varying multipath channels and show that a BER on the order of 10-3 is achievable at 330 m distance for uncoded data transmission.

MIMO-OFDM Systems in the Presence of Phase Noise and Doubly Selective Fading

TL;DR: A minimum mean-squared error-based scheme is derived to mitigate the effect of both phase noise and time-selective fading in MIMO-OFDM systems over doubly selective Rayleigh fading channels.

Training sequence vs. cyclic prefix a new look on single carrier communication

TL;DR: A new look is taken at this single carrier scheme, and it is shown that the cyclic prefix can be implemented as a training sequence, and hence play two important roles: avoid IBI and help in synchronisation and channel estimation.

The effect of interpolation on the BER performance of narrowband BPSK and (O)QPSK on Rician-fading channels

TL;DR: By means of theoretical analysis, it is demonstrated that even simple interpolators, operating at only a few samples per symbol, yield BER degradations that are limited to a small fraction of a dB.

Digital HDTV broadcasting over the CATV distribution system

TL;DR: This contribution deals with the digital broadcasting of HDTV channels over the cable television (CATV) distribution system, using either single-carrier QAM or an orthogonal frequency division multiplex of many QAM carriers to represent an HDTV channel.
