In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
Abstract
In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered. The degradation of the bit error rate (BER), caused by the presence of carrier frequency offset and carrier phase noise is analytically evaluated. It is shown that for a given BER degradation, the values of the frequency offset and the linewidth of the carrier generator that are allowed for OFDM are orders of magnitude smaller than for single carrier systems carrying the same bit rate. >

An SNR-Assisted Decision-Directed RCFO Estimation Algorithm for Wireless OFDM Systems

TL;DR: A new signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)-assisted DD algorithm is proposed to estimate the RCFO in wireless orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems and achieves a much better performance than the conventional DD schemes.

Power Allocation for OFDM Over Multi-scale Multi-lag Channels

TL;DR: This paper proposes an ON–OFF uniform power allocation method, in which subcarriers with odd indices keep inactive starting from a certain index to avoid ICI, and describes the resampled signal by an equivalent MSML model with residual time scales, which are much smaller than that of the original MSML channel.

Joint channel and frequency offset estimation for OFDM systems

TL;DR: In this article, a joint channel and frequency offset estimation algorithm is proposed, where the time variation of the effective channel impulse response (CIR) due to frequency offset is tracked using a channel tracker.

Interference analysis for asynchrounous OFDM/FBMC based cognitive radio networks over Rayleigh fading channel

TL;DR: The most striking observation to emerge from the results is that the asynchronous interference is inversely propositional to timing offset even for the multi-user case, and that differences in the normalized interference level between the single/multi-user cases is barely perceived for the FBMC technique, proving its efficiency.

Performance of an RCPC-coded OFDM-based digital audio broadcasting (DAB) system

TL;DR: A static code design with unequal error protection (UEP) is presented that also takes auxiliary data services into account and emphasis is on the use of source-adapted channel coding with rate-compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) codes.

The effect of interpolation on the BER performance of narrowband BPSK and (O)QPSK on Rician-fading channels

TL;DR: By means of theoretical analysis, it is demonstrated that even simple interpolators, operating at only a few samples per symbol, yield BER degradations that are limited to a small fraction of a dB.

Digital HDTV broadcasting over the CATV distribution system

TL;DR: This contribution deals with the digital broadcasting of HDTV channels over the cable television (CATV) distribution system, using either single-carrier QAM or an orthogonal frequency division multiplex of many QAM carriers to represent an HDTV channel.
