In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
Abstract
In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered. The degradation of the bit error rate (BER), caused by the presence of carrier frequency offset and carrier phase noise is analytically evaluated. It is shown that for a given BER degradation, the values of the frequency offset and the linewidth of the carrier generator that are allowed for OFDM are orders of magnitude smaller than for single carrier systems carrying the same bit rate. >

Two novel iterative joint frequency-offset and channel estimation methods for OFDMA uplink

TL;DR: Two iterative estimators are developed that are not only better in estimation performance, convergence rate, and complexity, but also more robust to the number of active uplink users than the existing method while requiring only one OFDM training symbol and no restriction of the data subcarrier assignment scheme.

Phase Noise in MIMO Systems: Bayesian Cramér–Rao Bounds and Soft-Input Estimation

TL;DR: Numerical results indicate that by employing the proposed phase tracking approach, the bit-error rate performance of a MIMO system affected by phase noise can be significantly improved and simulation results indicates that the proposedphase noise estimation scheme allows for application of higher order modulations and larger numbers of antennas in MIMo systems that employ imperfect oscillators.

Comparison of Frequency Offset and Timing Offset Effects on the Performance of SC-FDE and OFDM Over UWB Channels

TL;DR: It is shown through analysis that although SC-FDE is reasonably robust to a constant timing offset, it is fairly sensitive to random timing jitter.

On the effects of receiver windowing on OFDM performance in the presence of carrier frequency offset

TL;DR: The BTRC windowing gives the smallest BER among the five windowing functions considered for small to medium values of pulse roll-off factor, however, the Franks windowing or SOCW windowing shows better BER performance when the roll- off factor approaches one.

TL;DR: By means of theoretical analysis, it is demonstrated that even simple interpolators, operating at only a few samples per symbol, yield BER degradations that are limited to a small fraction of a dB.

Digital HDTV broadcasting over the CATV distribution system

TL;DR: This contribution deals with the digital broadcasting of HDTV channels over the cable television (CATV) distribution system, using either single-carrier QAM or an orthogonal frequency division multiplex of many QAM carriers to represent an HDTV channel.
