In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.Abstract:
In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered. The degradation of the bit error rate (BER), caused by the presence of carrier frequency offset and carrier phase noise is analytically evaluated. It is shown that for a given BER degradation, the values of the frequency offset and the linewidth of the carrier generator that are allowed for OFDM are orders of magnitude smaller than for single carrier systems carrying the same bit rate. >read more

Efficient structure-based carrier frequency offset estimation for interleaved OFDMA uplink
TL;DR: This paper proposes a carrier frequency offset estimation algorithm for the uplink of interleaved OFDMA systems that requires only one OfDMA block and utilizes the inner structure of the signals without any aid from training symbols or the knowledge of channels.

Channel Capacity Estimation Using Free-Probability Theory
Øyvind Ryan,Merouane Debbah +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown how free probability can be used for channel capacity estimation in MIMO systems and both the free-probability-based and the Gaussian matrix-mean-based estimator are asymptotically unbiased capacity estimators as the number of transmit antennas go to infinity, regardless of whether phase off-set and frequency drift are present.

On the Waveforms for 5G Mobile Broadband Communications
TL;DR: It is shown that OFDM is a suitable waveform for MBB due to reasonably low overhead, low cost and latency; whereas FBMC loses its spectral properties when non-linear power amplifier is used.

Digital HDTV broadcasting over the CATV distribution system
Marc Moeneclaey,Mark Van Bladel +1 more
TL;DR: This contribution deals with the digital broadcasting of HDTV channels over the cable television (CATV) distribution system, using either single-carrier QAM or an orthogonal frequency division multiplex of many QAM carriers to represent an HDTV channel.
