Journal ArticleDOI
The origin of extracellular fields and currents — EEG, ECoG, LFP and spikes
TL;DR: High-density recordings of field activity in animals and subdural grid recordings in humans can provide insight into the cooperative behaviour of neurons, their average synaptic input and their spiking output, and can increase the understanding of how these processes contribute to the extracellular signal.
Book
Spiking Neuron Models: Single Neurons, Populations, Plasticity
TL;DR: A comparison of single and two-dimensional neuron models for spiking neuron models and models of Synaptic Plasticity shows that the former are superior to the latter, while the latter are better suited to population models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synaptic mechanisms of synchronized gamma oscillations in inhibitory interneuron networks
TL;DR: Experimental analysis in the hippocampus and the neocortex and computational analysis suggests that synaptic specialization turns interneuron networks into robust gamma frequency oscillators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of noise in excitable systems
Benjamin Lindner,Jordi Garcia-Ojalvo,Jordi Garcia-Ojalvo,Alexander Neiman,Alexander Neiman,Lutz Schimansky-Geier,Lutz Schimansky-Geier +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the behavior of excitable systems driven by Gaussian white noise is reviewed, focusing mainly on those general properties of such systems that are due to noise, and present several applications of their findings in biophysics and lasers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correlated neuronal activity and the flow of neural information.
TL;DR: Experimental and theoretical results indicate that correlated fluctuations might be important for cortical processes, such as attention, that control the flow of information in the brain.
