Neotropical schistosomiasis: African aYnities of the host snail Biomphalaria glabrata (Gastropoda: Planorbidae)
TL;DR: The authors compared B. glabrata with four other Neotropical and three African species of Biomphalaria using 20 allozyme loci and found that it is phenetically and phylogenetically more like the African species; both parasite and American host snail are apparently of historically or geologically recent African origin.

Influence of Fragmentation and Bottlenecks on Genetic Divergence of Wild Turkey Populations
TL;DR: Fragmented distributions and population bottlenecks due to human activities appear to have increased genetic differentiation among populations of wild turkeys, which agrees with theoretical predictions concerning the effects of isolation and bottlenekks on the genetic structure of field populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Allozyme variation and systematics of the genus apodemus(rodentia: muridae) in asia minor and iran
TL;DR: Starch gel electrophoresis at 36 presumptive loci was used to study genetic variation and systematic status of 110 wood mice from 19 sites scattered across Anatolia, Armenia, and Iran, finding the pattern of variation and level of genetic differentiation within and among species were comparable between western and eastern samples.

Evolutionary relationships of Eastern Palearctic Brown Frogs, genus Rana: paraphyly of the 24-chromosome species group and the significance of chromosome number change
David M. Green,Leo J. Borkin +1 more
TL;DR: The parallel origins of reduced karyotypes among the brown frogs demonstrate that caution should be exercised when judging systematic relationships based upon gross karyology in the absence of more detailed information.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic variability of Prochilodus lineatus (Characiformes, Prochilodontidae) in the upper Paraná river
TL;DR: Values of genetic distance and genetic identity suggest that, at least along this stretch of the river, P. lineatus comprises a single breed with high gene flow, which has important implications for fishery management, aquaculture, and conservation of the stocks.
