Journal ArticleDOI

Paternal mitochondrial dna differentiation far exceeds maternal mitochondrial dna and allozyme differentiation in the freshwater mussel, anodonta grandis grandis.

TL;DR: Comparisons of population structure revealed by organellar genomes and protein polymorphisms have yielded strikingly discordant patterns in oysters, horseshoe crabs, and the sea scallop, and other studies clearly indicate that various types of gene markers can give discordant results when they are used to estimate population structure, gene flow, and selection intensities.

Genetic diversity in populations of Sphagnum capillifolium from the mountains of Bulgaria, and their possible refugial role

R. Natcheva, +1 more
- 01 Jun 2003 -
TL;DR: Investigation of genetic diversity in eight populations of Sphagnum capillifolium from different Bulgarian mountains found high levels of allelic diversity, which suggest a high degree of isolation and restricted gene flow between populations, which is consistent with generally small and scattered populations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Founder events and variation at microsatellite loci in an insular passerine bird, the Laysan finch (Telespiza cantans)

TL;DR: It is concluded that the PHR population is not adequate as a secondary genetic reserve for T. cantans, and an alternative refuge needs to be established.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ecological genetic studies in the chromosomal form Mopti of Anopheles gambiae s.str. in Mali, west Africa.

TL;DR: This coherent ecological genetics case provides full support to the hypothesis of the adaptive nature of paracentric inversions, and suggests a process of polygenic reorganization based on linkage disequilibria and involving the inversions as driving selection units.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sympatry in the Culicoides variipennis complex (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae): a taxonomic reassessment.

TL;DR: S sympatry among larval populations of the Culicoides variipennis complex in widespread and diverse aquatic habitats throughout the United States is reported, demonstrating a correlation between population taxonomic status as determined by electrophoresis and adult morphology.
