Allozymic and morphometric evidence for two stocks of the European anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus in Adriatic waters

TL;DR: Allozyme electrophoresis and morphometric analyses were used to investigate the stock structure of European anchovies captured by Italian vessels in the Adriatic Sea, and the possibility of partitioning fishing effort based on the proportions of the two stocks landed at individual ports is discussed.

Evolutionary and historical analysis of protein variation in the blotched forms of salamanders of the ensatina complex (amphibia: plethodontidae).

TL;DR: Geographic variation in 23 to 29 protein‐encoding genetic loci was examined in 48 populations of the Ensatina complex, a “ring species” distributed around the Central Valley of California, and a phylogenetic analysis of the protein data supports the reticulation hypothesis.

TL;DR: The cereal fields separating the populations may function as conduits rather than barriers to pollen dispersed by wind, and pollinating insects may have no problems moving between patches at this scale, thus alleviating the danger of genetic erosion associated with small population size.

Allozyme Variation in Populations of Six Northeastern American Red Oaks (Fagaceae: Quercus subg. Erythrobalanus)

TL;DR: Gene diversity analysis demonstrated that most of the variation present in Quercus populations exists within populations, and suggested that speciation among the five closely related red oak species was rapid and apparently occurred with minimal changes in the genes coding for the isozymes examined.
