TLDR
The present study is the first to identify that both BM‐derived fibrocytes and HSC are involved in biliary fibrogenesis in Abcb4−/− mice, and suggests that changes in immunity subsequent to BM‐Tx may alter hepatic fibrosis.

Functional Contribution of Elevated Circulating and Hepatic Non-Classical CD14+CD16+ Monocytes to Inflammation and Human Liver Fibrosis

TL;DR: The expansion of CD14+CD16+ monocytes in the circulation and liver of CLD-patients upon disease progression is demonstrated and their functional contribution to the perpetuation of intrahepatic inflammation and profibrogenic HSC activation in liver cirrhosis is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular pathogenesis of hepatic fibrosis and current therapeutic approaches

TL;DR: Key events are the activation and transformation of quiescent hepatic stellate cells into myofibroblast-like cells with the subsequent up-regulation of proteins such as α-smooth muscle actin, interstitial collagens, matrix metalloproteinases, tissue inhibitor of metallofiltration, and proteoglycans.

Genetic Labeling Does Not Detect Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition of Cholangiocytes in Liver Fibrosis in Mice

TL;DR: EMT of cholangiocytes identified by genetic labeling does not contribute to hepatic fibrosis in mice, providing no evidence for MET in HSCs in response to fibrogenic liver injury.

Current status of novel antifibrotic therapies in patients with chronic liver disease

TL;DR: The advances in the elucidation of the biology of fibrosis, combined with improved technologies for assessment will provide a comprehensive framework for design of antifibrotics and their analysis in well-designed clinical trials, and may ultimately yield success in halting the progression of, or reversing, liver fibrosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Update on hepatic stellate cells: pathogenic role in liver fibrosis and novel isolation techniques.

TL;DR: Novel isolation techniques, specifically HSC sorting by FACS via autofluorescence and antibodies, will provide further opportunities to advance the understanding of HSC biology in health and disease.

A new mathematical model for relative quantification in real-time RT-PCR.

TL;DR: This study enters into the particular topics of the relative quantification in real-time RT-PCR of a target gene transcript in comparison to a reference gene transcript and presents a new mathematical model that needs no calibration curve.

Green mice' as a source of ubiquitous green cells

TL;DR: Transgenic mouse lines with an ‘enhanced’ GFP (EGFP) cDNA under the control of a chicken beta‐actin promoter and cytomegalovirus enhancer were produced and all of the tissues from these transgenic lines, with the exception of erythrocytes and hair, were green under excitation light.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purified hematopoietic stem cells can differentiate into hepatocytes in vivo

TL;DR: It is reported that intravenous injection of adult bone marrow cells in the FAH−/− mouse, an animal model of tyrosinemia type I, rescued the mouse and restored the biochemical function of its liver.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cell fusion is the principal source of bone-marrow-derived hepatocytes

TL;DR: It is concluded that hepatocytes derived form bone marrow arise from cell fusion and not by differentiation of haematopoietic stem cells.
