Abstract
The synthesis of four novel heteroleptic dipyrrinato complexes [(η6-arene)RuCl(2-pcdpm)] (η6-arene = C6H6, 1; C10H14, 2) and [(η5-C5Me5)MCl(2-pcdpm)] (M = Rh, 3; Ir, 4) containing a new chelating ligand 4-(2-methoxypyridyl)-phenyldipyrromethene (2-pcdpm) have been described. The complexes 1–4 have been fully characterized by various physicochemical techniques, namely, elemental analyses, spectral (ESI-MS, IR, 1H, 13C NMR, UV/vis) and electrochemical studies (cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV)). Structures of 3 and 4 have been determined crystallographically. In vitro antiproliferative and cytotoxic activity of these complexes has been evaluated by trypan blue exclusion assay, cell morphology, apoptosis, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EtBr) fluorescence staining, and DNA fragmentation assay in Dalton lymphoma (DL) cell lines. Interaction of 1–4 with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) has also been supported by absorption titration and electrochemical studies. Our results suggest t...

Ruthenium(II) arene complexes containing benzhydrazone ligands: synthesis, structure and antiproliferative activity

TL;DR: The results of AO–EB, Hoechst 33258 and flow cytometry analyses reveal that these complexes induce cell death only through apoptosis, highlighting the strong possibility to develop highly active ruthenium complexes as anticancer agents.

Synthesis and molecular structure of arene ruthenium(II) benzhydrazone complexes: impact of substitution at the chelating ligand and arene moiety on antiproliferative activity

TL;DR: The results of Western blot analyses suggest that complexes 3 and 6 accumulate preferentially in the mitochondria of MDA-MB-231 cells and induce apoptosis via mitochondrial pathways by up-regulating p53 and Bax, and down- Regulating Bcl-2.

Theoretical aspects of DNA-protein interactions: co-operative and non-co-operative binding of large ligands to a one-dimensional homogeneous lattice.

TL;DR: The results indicate that the binding of any non-interacting ligand covering more than one lattice residue results in non- linear (convex downward) Scatchard plots, and the introduction of positive ligand-ligand co-operativity antagonizes this non-linearity, and eventually leads to plots of the opposite curvature.

Gefitinib in Combination With Gemcitabine and Cisplatin in Advanced Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer: A Phase III Trial—INTACT 1

TL;DR: Gefitinib in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin in chemotherapy-naive patients with advanced NSCLC did not have improved efficacy over gemcitABine and cascplatin alone, and the reasons for this remain obscure and require further preclinical testing.
