ECG data compression techniques-a unified approach
TLDR
The theoretical bases behind the direct ECG data compression schemes are presented and classified into three categories: tolerance-comparison compression, DPCM, and entropy coding methods and a framework for evaluation and comparison of ECG compression schemes is presented.Abstract:
Electrocardiogram (ECG) compression techniques are compared, and a unified view of these techniques is established. ECG data compression schemes are presented in two major groups: direct data compression and transformation methods. The direct data compression techniques are ECG differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) and entropy coding, AZTEC, Turning-point, CORTES, Fan and SAPA algorithms, peak-picking, and cycle-to-cycle compression methods. The transformation methods include Fourier, Walsh, and Karhunen-Loeve transforms. The theoretical bases behind the direct ECG data compression schemes are presented and classified into three categories: tolerance-comparison compression, DPCM, and entropy coding methods. A framework for evaluation and comparison of ECG compression schemes is presented. >read more

Sensor node and sensor network system
TL;DR: In this article, a sensor node including a sensor for measuring biological information, a CPU for acquiring data by driving the sensor, a wireless communication unit for transmitting the data acquired by the CPU, a battery for supplying the control unit, the wireless communications unit, and the sensor with electric power, a RAM for storing the data, a compression unit for compressing the data stored in the RAM when the wireless communication units cannot carry out the transmission, thereby storing as much sensing data as possible on the sensor node, which is limited in resources, and preventing loss of the sensing data.

Method of compressing waveform data with differential entropy based compression
TL;DR: In this paper, a truncated entropy encoding map is generated and the values within the map are selected to be encoded or unencoded to provide an overall compression of the data, which is then used by an encoder to further sub-select the values.

A new algorithm for the compression of ECG signals based on mother wavelet parameterization and best-threshold levels selection
TL;DR: It can be deduced that the performance of the optimized signal dependent wavelet outperforms that of Daubechies and Coiflet standard wavelets, however, the computational complexity of the proposed technique is the price paid for the improvement in the compression performance measures.
