TLDR
In this paper, the authors applied the statistical criteria for CO2 concentration and vertical wind speed, averaging over a 5min period and selecting only the wind direction with longest fetch, to obtain lake-representative CO2 fluxes.Abstract:
was >0 W/m 2 at night and <0 W/m 2 in daytime. The latent heat flux dominated clearly over H in spring and summer; that is, the Bowen ratio was less than 1. Highermoment turbulence statistics proved to be efficient in detection of frequent nonstationary situations. Applying the statistical criteria for CO2 concentration and vertical wind speed, averaging over a 5-min period and selecting only the wind direction with longest fetch, we could obtain lake-representative CO2 fluxes. Footprint analysis based on a closure model revealed that the source areas were relatively short because of the presence of turbulence generated by the surrounding forest, compared to a larger lake with an extended smooth surface. We observed a net CO2 source of 0.2–0.4 mmol m 2 s 1 excluding July, when the flux was closer to zero. The results are consistent with the gradient method, based on more infrequent sampling, and both methods gave the same average flux, 0.2 mmol m 2 s 1 , over the whole open-water period.read more

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of permafrost thaw on lakes and streams in the Arctic were explored, where the authors explored the effect of both thermokarst (thawing and collapse of ice-rich permaculture) and deepening of the active layer (the surface soil layer that thaws and refreezes each year).

TL;DR: It is shown that evasion of C is greater than all the total dissolved C exported downstream in the waters of a boreal landscape as it more than doubled the magnitude of the aquatic conduit for C from this landscape.

TL;DR: In this article, the energy balance of a small boreal lake (area 0.041 km2, mean depth 2.5 m) in southern Finland was measured during four open water periods (April-October) in 2005-2008.

TL;DR: Although much attention in recent years has been devoted to methane (CH4) emissions from northern wetlands, measurement based data sets providing full annual budgets are still limited in number as mentioned in this paper, which is a problem.

Correction of flux measurements for density effects due to heat and water vapour transfer
TL;DR: In this article, the basic relationships are discussed in the context of vertical transfer in the lower atmosphere, and the required corrections to the measured flux are derived, where the correction to measurements of water vapour flux will often be only a few per cent but will sometimes exceed 10 percent.
