TLDR
In this paper, the authors review recent theoretical progress in understanding physical processes of composite effects on enhanced third-order nonlinear optical responses of various kinds of the recently proposed non-linear optical materials, namely, colloidal nanocrystals with inhomogeneous metallodielectric particles or a graded-index host, metallic films with inhmogeneous microstructures adjusted by ion doping or temperature gradient, composites with compositional gradation or graded particles.

Enhanced three-photon absorption in CdSe/CdS core/shell nanocrystals in near-infrared

TL;DR: In this paper, Colloidal CdSe nanocrystals are synthesized and successively overcoated with CdS monolayers (MLs), and the three-photon absorption properties are measured by Z-scan and nonlinear transmission techniques with 80 fs laser pulses at 1250 nm in the near-infrared.

Optical properties in the soft photonic crystals based on ferrofluids

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors theoretically investigate the properties of optical propagation in one-dimensional soft photonic crystals based on ferrofluids using the transfer matrix method, and they show that tunable band gaps can be realized by varying the local magnetic field factor α, the shell thickness parameter t, or the filling fraction ν of the ferromagnetic layer.

Slow Down of Charge Transfer Owing to Auger Recombination and Two-Photon Action Cross-Section of CdS–CdSe–CdS Segmented Nanorods

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on the dynamical properties of photoexcited carriers, particularly the charge transfer, in CdS and CdSe segmented nanorods using femtosecond transient pump-probe spectroscopy.
