TLDR
In this paper, five additional mRNAs of this class are described and all of them were superinduced in the presence of cycloheximide and reached peak levels between 40 and 120 min after serum addition and rapidly decayed thereafter.

Journal ArticleDOI

The regulation and function of c-fos and other immediate early genes in the nervous system.

TL;DR: This review highlights the importance of identifying the genes that are responsive to trans-synaptic stimulation and membrane electrical activity in neural cells and proposes that IEGs encode regulatory proteins that control the expression of late response genes.

Human Proto-Oncogene c-jun Encodes a DNA Binding Protein with Structural and Functional Properties of Transcription Factor AP-1

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the proto-oncogene product of c-jun interacts directly with specific target DNA sequences to regulate gene expression, and therefore it may now be possible to identify genes under the control ofc-jun that affect cell growth and neoplasia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Membrane depolarization and calcium induce c-fos transcription via phosphorylation of transcription factor CREB.

TL;DR: The mechanism by which the calcium influx signal is transduced to the nucleus to activate c-fos proto-oncogene transcription has been characterized and CREB can function as a regulatory element that integrates both calcium and cAMP signals in the control of gene expression.

Transcriptional regulation of hemoglobin switching in chicken embryos.

TL;DR: The results indicate that little, if any, transcription from the adult or embryonic beta-globin genes is detectable in the heterologous red cell nuclei, even under conditions in which ribonucleic acid processing probably does not occur.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of protein synthesis inhibitors on growth factor activation of c-fos, c-myc, and actin gene transcription.

TL;DR: The results suggest that in PC12 cells c-fos transcription is activated by a protein-synthesis-independent mechanism, whereas c-myc stimulation requires new protein synthesis.

Identification of a BALB/c-3T3 cell protein modulated by platelet-derived growth factor.

TL;DR: The synthesis of pII (MEP) may be required, but is not sufficient, for PDGF-modulated DNA synthesis, in BALB/c-3T3 cells.

cDNA cloning of mRNAS which increase rapidly in human lymphocytes cultured with concanavalin-A and cycloheximide

TL;DR: To induce or "superexpress" genes involved in the entry of cultured GO lymphocytes into the G1-phase of the cell cycle, the cells were treated for 2 hours with a lectin (concanavalin-A) and a protein synthesis inhibitor (cycloheximide).
