TLDR
A novel research on a dynamic facial expression recognition, using near-infrared (NIR) video sequences and LBP-TOP feature descriptors and component-based facial features are presented to combine geometric and appearance information, providing an effective way for representing the facial expressions.

Suppressing Uncertainties for Large-Scale Facial Expression Recognition

TL;DR: Self-Cure Network suppresses the uncertainty from two different aspects: 1) a self-attention mechanism over FER dataset to weight each sample in training with a ranking regularization, and 2) a careful relabeling mechanism to modify the labels of these samples in the lowest-ranked group.
Journal ArticleDOI

Attention mechanism-based CNN for facial expression recognition

TL;DR: A novel end-to-end network with attention mechanism for automatic facial expression recognition is proposed and LBP features and attention mechanism are combined to enhance the attention model to obtain better results.

A Compact Deep Learning Model for Robust Facial Expression Recognition

TL;DR: The proposed framework is extended to a frame-to-sequence approach by exploiting temporal information with gated recurrent units and an illumination augmentation scheme to alleviate the overfitting problem when training the deep networks with hybrid data sources.

Towards Reading Hidden Emotions: A comparative Study of Spontaneous Micro-expression Spotting and Recognition Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for spotting spontaneous micro-expressions in long videos is proposed, which is trained free and works on arbitrary unseen videos and outperforms previous work by a large margin on two challenging spontaneous ME databases (SMIC and CASMEII).
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Patch-Gated CNN for Occlusion-aware Facial Expression Recognition

TL;DR: An end-to-end trainable Patch-Gated Convolution Neutral Network (PG-CNN) that can automatically percept the occluded region of the face and focus on the most discriminative un-occluded regions and improves the recognition accuracy on both the original faces and faces with synthesized occlusions.

Multiresolution gray-scale and rotation invariant texture classification with local binary patterns

TL;DR: A generalized gray-scale and rotation invariant operator presentation that allows for detecting the "uniform" patterns for any quantization of the angular space and for any spatial resolution and presents a method for combining multiple operators for multiresolution analysis.

Robust Face Recognition via Sparse Representation

TL;DR: This work considers the problem of automatically recognizing human faces from frontal views with varying expression and illumination, as well as occlusion and disguise, and proposes a general classification algorithm for (image-based) object recognition based on a sparse representation computed by C1-minimization.
Journal ArticleDOI

On combining classifiers

TL;DR: A common theoretical framework for combining classifiers which use distinct pattern representations is developed and it is shown that many existing schemes can be considered as special cases of compound classification where all the pattern representations are used jointly to make a decision.

From few to many: illumination cone models for face recognition under variable lighting and pose

TL;DR: A generative appearance-based method for recognizing human faces under variation in lighting and viewpoint that exploits the fact that the set of images of an object in fixed pose but under all possible illumination conditions, is a convex cone in the space of images.
