Frailty and cognitive impairment--a review of the evidence and causal mechanisms.

TLDR
The evidence for an association between frailty and cognitive impairment is reviewed and some of the mechanisms that potentially underpin this relationship from brain neuropathology and hormonal dysregulation to cardiovascular risk and psychological factors are outlined.

Frailty: implications for clinical practice and public health.

TL;DR: An overview of the global impact and burden of frailty, the usefulness of the frailty concept in clinical practice, potential targets for frailty prevention, and directions that need to be explored in the future are provided.

Effectiveness of interventions to prevent pre-frailty and frailty progression in older adults: a systematic review.

TL;DR: There is mixed results regarding the effectiveness of frailty interventions, but there is clear evidence on the usefulness of such interventions in carefully chosen evidence-based circumstances, both for frailty itself and for secondary outcomes, supporting clinical investment of resources in frailty intervention.

Frailty as a Risk Factor for Falls Among Community Dwelling People: Evidence From a Meta-Analysis

TL;DR: It is confirmed that compared with robust older adults, frail older adults were more likely to experience recurrent falls, and older adults should be evaluated for the possibility of geriatric syndromes such as frailty, which may be addressed to reduce the risk for bone fractures and death.

Frailty in Older Adults Evidence for a Phenotype

TL;DR: This study provides a potential standardized definition for frailty in community-dwelling older adults and offers concurrent and predictive validity for the definition, and finds that there is an intermediate stage identifying those at high risk of frailty.

Broken Limits to Life Expectancy

TL;DR: The evidence presented in this paper suggests that the apparent leveling off of life expectancy in various countries is an artifact of laggards catching up and leaders falling behind, not a sign that life expectancy is approaching its limit.

Frailty in Relation to the Accumulation of Deficits

TL;DR: Although based on a simple count, the frailty index shows several interesting properties, including a characteristic rate of accumulation, a submaximal limit, and characteristic changes with age in its distribution.

Gait speed at usual pace as a predictor of adverse outcomes in community-dwelling older people an International Academy on Nutrition and Aging (IANA) Task Force

TL;DR: Gait speed at usual pace was found to be a consistent risk factor for disability, cognitive impairment, institutionalisation, falls, and/or mortality in older adults as mentioned in this paper, and the use of simple, safe, and easy to perform assessment tool, like gait speed, to evaluate vulnerability to adverse outcomes in community-dwelling older people is appealing.
