Gamma synchrony: towards a translational biomarker for the treatment-resistant symptoms of schizophrenia.

TLDR
It is proposed that analogous signal-to-noise deficits in the flow of cortical information in preclinical models are useful targets for the development of new drugs that target the treatment-resistant symptoms of schizophrenia.

Intrinsic Coupling Modes: Multiscale Interactions in Ongoing Brain Activity

TL;DR: It is proposed that the concept of intrinsic coupling modes can provide a unifying framework for capturing the dynamics of intrinsically generated neuronal interactions at multiple spatial and temporal scales.

A deep learning approach for Parkinson’s disease diagnosis from EEG signals

TL;DR: An automated detection system for Parkinson’s disease employing the convolutional neural network (CNN) employing the thirteen-layer CNN architecture which can overcome the need for the conventional feature representation stages is proposed.

Pathophysiologically based treatment interventions in schizophrenia

TL;DR: In this article, the contributions of disturbances in glutamate, dopamine and GABA neurotransmission to the pathophysiology of working memory impairments in schizophrenia were investigated, and a cascade of molecular events that might link these disturbances, and argued that the molecular alterations most proximal to prefrontal dysfunction offer the most promise as targets for new drug development.
Journal ArticleDOI

Elevated prefrontal cortex γ-aminobutyric acid and glutamate-glutamine levels in schizophrenia measured in vivo with proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

TL;DR: The first GABA concentration measurements in unmedicated patients with schizophrenia, who showed elevations in both GABA and Glx levels in the medial prefrontal cortex but not the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, suggest possible normalization of levels with antipsychotic medication.

The brainweb: phase synchronization and large-scale integration.

TL;DR: It is argued that the most plausible candidate is the formation of dynamic links mediated by synchrony over multiple frequency bands.

Rhythms of the brain

TL;DR: The brain's default state: self-organized oscillations in rest and sleep, and perturbation of the default patterns by experience.

Oscillatory responses in cat visual cortex exhibit inter-columnar synchronization which reflects global stimulus properties.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that neurons in spatially separate columns can synchronize their oscillatory responses, which has, on average, no phase difference, depends on the spatial separation and the orientation preference of the cells and is influenced by global stimulus properties.

What are the functional consequences of neurocognitive deficits in schizophrenia

TL;DR: Verbal memory and vigilance appear to be necessary for adequate functional outcome in schizophrenic patients and may prevent patients from attaining optimal adaptation and hence act as "neurocognitive rate-limiting factors."
