TLDR
DNA sequences of hepatitis B virus (HBV) were found in fresh and cultured lymphocytes from patients with AIDS even in the absence of conventional HBV serological markers, and the restriction DNA pattern was consistent with the integration of the viral DNA.Abstract:
A lymphotropic virus HTLV-III/LAV was recently identified as the etiologic agent of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) In a study of concomitant hepatitis B infections in patients with AIDS or the AIDS-related complex, DNA sequences of hepatitis B virus (HBV) were found in fresh and cultured lymphocytes from patients with AIDS even in the absence of conventional HBV serological markers Furthermore, the restriction DNA pattern was consistent with the integration of the viral DNA These results should prompt additional studies to reevaluate a possible role of HBV as a cofactor in AIDS in addition to the HTLV-III/LAV causal agentread more

Molecular bases for the development of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
TL;DR: This review will mainly analyse the impact of chronic HBV infection but it is important to emphasize the potential synergistic effects between HBV and HCV, as well as between viral infections and other environmental factors, such as alcohol, chemical carcinogens and other, still poorly defined, hormonal factors which may account for the higher incidence of the tumor in man.

TL;DR: From these studies it is concluded that this virus as well as the previous HTLV isolates belong to a general family of T-lymphotropic retroviruses that are horizontally transmitted in humans and may be involved in several pathological syndromes, including AIDS.

Detection, Isolation, and Continuous Production of Cytopathic Retroviruses (HTLV-III) from Patients with AIDS and Pre-AIDS
TL;DR: A cell system was developed for the reproducible detection of human T-lymphotropic retroviruses (HTLV family) from patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or with signs or symptoms that frequently precede AIDS (pre-AIDS), and it provides large amounts of virus for detailed molecular and immunological analyses.
