TLDR
Two distinct subtypes of the angiotensin II receptor in the rat adrenal gland are demonstrated using radioligand binding and tissue section autoradiography and the discovery of two structurally dissimilar, nonpeptide compounds that show reciprocal selectivity for the two subtypes.

International Union of Pharmacology. XXIII. The Angiotensin II Receptors

TL;DR: Although AT(1) receptors mediate most of the known actions of Ang II, the AT(2) receptor contributes to the regulation of blood pressure and renal function and the development of specific nonpeptide receptor antagonists has led to major advances in the physiology, pharmacology, and therapy of the renin-angiotensin system.

Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Angiotensin II-Mediated Cardiovascular and Renal Diseases

TL;DR: In vivo recent evidence suggest that the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases and activator protein-1 by Ang II may play the key role in cardiovascular and renal diseases, however, there are still unresolved questions and controversies on the mechanism of Ang II-mediated cardiovascular and kidneys diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Angiotensin, Thirst, and Sodium Appetite

TL;DR: Analysis of the mechanisms of increased drinking caused by drugs and experimental procedures that activate the renal renin-angiotensin system, and clinical conditions in which renal renIn secretion is increased, have provided evidence that endogenously released renal ren in can generate enough circulating ANG II to stimulate drinking.

Cloning and expression of a complementary DNA encoding a bovine adrenal angiotensin II type-1 receptor

TL;DR: The expression cloning of a complementary DNA encoding a bovine angiotensin II receptor is reported to overcome the difficulties faced in purifying the receptor owing to its instability and low concentration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Expression cloning of type 2 angiotensin II receptor reveals a unique class of seven-transmembrane receptors.

TL;DR: In this article, a rat fetus expression library was used to clone a 363-amino acid protein with pharmacological specificity, tissue distribution, and developmental pattern of the AT2 receptor with 34% identical in sequence to the AT1 receptor, sharing a seven-transmembrane domain topology.

A functional basis for classification of alpha-adrenergic receptors.

TL;DR: A division of adrenergic receptors into alpha and beta types could conceivably lead to the development of powerful agents even more selective for inhibition of renin release, control of blood pressure by a central site of action, reduction of fever, and possible other scientific or therapeutic applications.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preliminary biochemical characterization of two angiotensin II receptor subtypes.

TL;DR: There is a good correlation between the affinities of the selected agonists and antagonists for the two subtypes in the various tissues tested which is a usual requirement for receptor classification.

Angiotensin increases inositol trisphosphate and calcium in vascular smooth muscle

TL;DR: Data are consistent with the hypothesis that generation of IP3 plays a role in the angiotensin II-induced mobilization of calcium from intracellular storage sites in vascular smooth muscle cells and appear to be capable of generating more IP3 than is required for maximal release of intrACEllular calcium.

Properties of angiotensin II receptors in the bovine and rat adrenal cortex.

TL;DR: The presence of high affinity specific binding sites for angiotensin II in bovine and rat adrenal cortex and suggest a plasma membrane location for the angiotENSin II receptors are illustrated.

The effect of the heptapeptide (2-8) and hexapeptide (3-8) fragments of angiotensin ii on aldosterone secretion1

TL;DR: The effect of local adrenal arterial infusion of the heptapeptide (2-8) and hexapeptides (3-3) fragments of angiotensin 11 on a aldosterone secretion was examined.
